penn masala is an a cappella group formed by u of penn undergrads some time in 1996 or 97. each song is a seamless fusion of an american/english pop song and a possibly unrelated - except in sounds, notes, and rhythms - indian song, usually in hindi. the group's composition changes somewhat each year as some of the 12 to 14 members graduate and leave.

pm has gained popularity each year; they've made a few albums, the latest of which may be panorama. they perform, usually on college campuses, in the u.s. and abroad.

i have a feeling that someone has posted a link to pm here before.

i wd not recommend listening to any of their live performances; the sound quality is awful, and the girls howling in enthusiasm make it worse. here are my favs:

a cappella versions of jashn e bahara and ya ali and aadat! very nice! thanks for posting this! i too will forward this to my kids. the first one is my favourite!
