Is this the first time a past President nominated a sitting president ?

Made me think of the possible reasons. Everyone thinks Bubba nominated him for the "effect" and mobilization. But, I think there is another reason. Usually, whoever nominates ends up getting an advantage at the party's nomination the next time. I suspect Obama and Hillary made a deal to not let anyone else nominate Obama and become a front runner for the next nomination. In other words, Hillary is likely to be in the running for 2016. This time she could have nominated Obama but did not want to give the republicans a chance to use her as a campaign point.

Let us wait and see.
