Levels of Hell Empty Levels of Hell

Post by Vakavaka Pakapaka Thu Sep 13, 2012 2:21 pm

In July, while driving in our neighborhood, I saw a van
belonging to a hot water tank/boiler service man with a sign on the back that
read: “For what shall it profit a man,
if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul” (Mark 8:36).

I thought it was strange to have such a saying on a van of a
tradesman, considering that a recent article in the local newspaper suggested
that often these guys take you for a ride and charge an arm and a leg on
unnecessary repairs.

In our home, we have a large size boiler for heating the
floors as well as for hot water supply to sinks, showers, etc. I called 3
companies for estimates for tuning up the system and was disappointed with all
their quotes.

I called the Mark 8:36 fellow for an estimate and he gave me
two options – one in which I pay a fixed amount per hour of labor and the other
in which he gives a firm quote for total work. I thought I would try the “per
hour method” and see if Mr. Mark 8:36 follows the saying on his van.
Incidentally, he doesn’t work for any major company; his son accompanies him on
the job.

He was methodical, careful and devoted to his work. The son
was giving the impression that his father was too honest and hardworking. In
the end, he ended up charging less than half of what the lowest quote from the “company
guys” was.

I was wondering if he would give me a lecture on God,
heathen, heaven, hell…….. (he could have easily guessed that he was in a Hindu
household). No, he did not. He took the
money and asked to call if anything goes wrong with the boiler. After one
month, he called me to check if everything was ok with the boiler!

If he were to raise the God, heaven, hell, etc., ….. issue,
I was going to suggest that there should be at least two levels of hell - one for
heathen like me and one for “extremely brilliant CH scholars”.

Seriously, there are still some very decent tradesmen in the
community.

Nice of you to share this real experience Mr. Sandilya! You mean decent Christian tradesmen:) ..who don't talk the talk, but walk the walk..just "being real Christians" without greed, any conversion agenda, and treating others as they would like to be treated..simply as a way of life.

He is a man of conviction. Hopefully, the son will realize how lucky he is to have such a father.

He is a lucky man indeed! It is truly a blessing to have parents or elders like this gentleman (no matter which faith they embrace)..who are the 'salt of the earth' (as we call them!)

In these times..when faith is often ridiculed even by the so called intelligent and educated, there is hardly any sensitivity when it comes to what others consider sacred and cross all boundaries of decency..it is refreshing to see people who live by greater moral teachings, don't impose their personal faith on others..with respect and conviction do their best to help others.
