[poll] what do you value more? Empty [poll] what do you value more?

Post by Guest Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:52 pm

Most of us here are *ahem* middle aged. After having gone full cycles of relationships, what's your stand? What do you seek more? Relationship or companionship? Can you go through life with good companions, related or not? Or is it meaningless without a named relationship? Are you in a relationship, but seeking companions? Do you have companions but missing the relationship component?

Vote away! Or share your views/questions in replies.

Please define the words relationship and companionship. Also please provide a "none of my beeswax" option.

Relationship = as defined by law and society. More legal.

Companionship = same functions as a relationship but not necessarily with a given name.

Example:

you are in a relationship with your spouse, but he/she is not the companion you are looking for. Or, you have a great friend/companion, but do you wanna marry him/her? Or if you are single, what would you go for, at this stage in life. Companion or spouse?

Great if the two are the same, but what if they are not. What do you seek more, even if one is not at the cost of another (i.e. say an extramarital emotional/physical affair).

None of my beeswax can't be an option, coz it is your business, heh.

That's great. But if u are seeking both sorta means u value relationship more. Coz it's the next step after companionship. You don't wanna stop at C. You want R too. So 7, ur vote is clear. You value R more. Smile

Ok. Sorry that wasn't an option that I put out, and on purpose. I think at every age, you want both. And great if you have it. So that's a nobrainer. Everyone will pick that. But in case you don't and that happens quite often too, you either seek the other thing, maybe with the same person or with someone else. Or you don't seek the other thing at all. And that's what I am trying to get at, how others think.

I wish life was simple.

I wish life had meaning.

I wish there was permanence.

I wish no one took offense.

I wish there were surprises.

According to the description given by pollster Tracy..for my business (!), it's very easy- I'll vote for "Relationship". It's THE "most valued" on all levels- above ALL others!

When it comes to others, it's too easy too..I'll vote for the - not included Panini Press option..none of my beeswax!

This forum has been around long enough now..I want to be "valued" and expect some incentive-a free gift for answering polls (from the pollsters, founder of the forum)..looks like I am the only one who voted so far!

hmm, muddy territory. So let's see. If u r married, and seeking someone else, with the dreams of later marriage/kids, then u value relationship more. If no such dreams, then companionship. Guess one-night stands or random sex acts with random people don't count much, coz they are maybe better quality jerkoff sessions. In that case, hmm, u value relationship more? dunno. gray area there.

we think alike. moreover, guess relationships come with a lot of overhead. too expensive, emotionally and financially, when all u really seek is probably a good companionship. atleast at a later stage in life... that's my take now. 10 years ago, i might have been shooting down this logic with ,companionship w/no commitment is a waste of time, etc etc.

NATs,
Great question. There was Telugu movie made in 1960s named doctor chakravarty. Based on real story, this movie explored the relationship and companionship issue in a greAt way.

A song written by Sri Sri summarizes the issue:
If some one loves you for who you are
If someone can tear up for you
having such a companion
That is wealth that is heaven

It sounds deep and lyrical if you can read itin Telugu.
It is one of the best moments of Telugu film history.
Some one like indophile or pp can take time to translate the whole song.

There is no such thing as "no strings" or "freebees" It is prudent to expect the unexpected and be prepared to face the unintended problems.

Of course, such an analytical person will not be going for any companionship - strings or no strings...Razz

NATs,
Relationships is a special case of a social arrangement within the concept of companionship. Unlike C, the social contract of R obligates responsibilities. C is more fundamental, natural and enjoyable concept.

I see no conflict bet C and R. But if you insist, C would be my choice.

I will post the video of the song "manasuna Maasai" from doctor C later.

Thanks for voting, TBT. Nice to see more and more view points on this, and what we really seek, which itself can change depending on where we are at what stage in life.

Will wait for your song. Will then badger all my Telugu peeps for translation. I might even pin down one to watch and translate that movie for me. Let's see...

Here's the song, Manasuna Manasai. Great song about the hero's yearning for a good companion. But at the end, the hero compromises to settle down with the wife he's not in love with.
