It is a good movie. A simple but imaginative one. Tabu's Tamil will make MAX upset. Computer graphics and animation are out of this world (Probably will get an OSCAR for that). The boy Suraj Sharma (?) did very well. The few jokes are really subtle and actually funny.

There is no run around the tree ringa ringa song.

Kids will love it. So go with the family (tht may or may not include Hoojband).

Saami...which "story" did you like - the one with the tiger or the cook, sailor?

I would have preferred a story, where the cook woudl try to molest the mom and the kid heroically saving his mom, and Aanandhi marrying him in the end. A nice dance/song in the island would hv been better...

Well... the tiger story is unbelievable and hence the story. Still why there is no mention of the storm and real reason for the ship wreck?

In a social verbose world, there are way too many loose lips.

watched it.

verdict: so-so, eminently missable. nothing out of the world as some of the reviews claim.

oh, atrocious tamil accent and why are tamilians speaking english with a north indian(bengali?) accent?

that said, it was nice to see a mainstream movie where most of the lines are in indian english running full houses. some of the allusions will be lost on non-indian audiences, i think.

watched it and liked parts of it. my daughter found it very sad. i loved the prey-predator angle to the story. very well explained with the zebra, hyena and the orangutan.
the floating island was very mythical. for some reason, i loved it:-)

Watched this movie over the holidays. Of all movies we saw recently, this was the one we talked about the most long after we finished watching it. I think the last movie that we discussed so much was the second Matrix movie. I really liked the visuals, and the end was fantastic.

I thought the movie was overhyped. Too many things, from the name of the protagonist to the situations he finds himself in and the religious mumbo-jumbo in the background, all felt very contrived.

The movie-hall in South Mumbai was filled with silver-haird unkils and aunties looking for some deeply spiritual meaning in the story. The most authentic reaction was from the five-year old next to me who slept through the second half.

Haha. I felt a little bored myself once the tiger situation was contained. The stunning visuals in that part of the movie sometimes made me seek meaning that I suspect wasn't there.

What I liked about the movie was that it sets the stage for some interesting conversations. "Which story do you like" is a question that appeals to us as people. The idea that "life is unfair and shit happens; given that, what would you rather believe" -- far from making me believe there is god as the movie grandly promises at the beginning, just made for some interesting speculations.

Like Sotomayor said on 60 mins, Evil exists - and there are men that are irredeemably evil. And that is depressing to contemplate. Whether it is Virginia Woolf, David Foster Wallace or Aaron Swartz, the path of making logical choices is a dead-end. Hearing phantasmagorical stories involving rich colored textures and anthropomorphic animals is what we, as humans, are left with, to plod through life. Or taking another analogy, sometimes it is best to leave patients with a few lies about their condition - just better for everyone around, you see. Facades and masks are important for humans and the elaborate ritual of pretending to 'believe' is as comfortable as a mother's womb.

(thanks ....that felt good)

That, pp, is the twist in the tale - the nice little wink that the director gives us, the superior rationalist non-believers, pointing down at the little children of god apropos of whom we may indulge in a chuckle or two.
