The "winning" streak Empty The "winning" streak

Romney lost the election, but he's on a winning streak lately. His 47% remark made it to the top of the list of quotable quotes of 2012. He had a few other contributions to that top 10 list, as did Obama with his "you didn't build that" and "bayonets and horses" lines. Now Romney wins the Lie of the Year award for 2012 from the political fact-checking website PolitiFact. One of the ways the Romney campaign distinguished itself from other campaigns in recent memory is with its utter and complete contempt for the truth. As a campaign staffer puts it:

First of all, ads are propaganda by definition. We are in the persuasion business, the propaganda business…. Ads are agitprop…. Ads are about hyperbole, they are about editing. It’s ludicrous for them to say that an ad is taking something out of context…. All ads do that. They are manipulative pieces of persuasive art.

We are going to lie, and do that shamelessly, was the publicly stated media strategy of the campaign.
