This is certainly uncalled for. I hope Rashmun apologizes to Uppili before several CHers decide to stop paying attention to Rashmun.

The meaning of the words is that Uppili is capable of auto fellatio. Uppili is lying when he says I called his mom a prostitute.

rashmun -- thevadiya is a prostitute, and thevadiya paiyan means son of a prostitute.

This is going to generate a whole new middle-parted head kind of argument soon.

in that case i apologize unreservedly to Uppili. I was under the impression that the words refer to the capability of Uppili to perform auto-fellatio. I will try to be more careful in future when practicing my tamil.

that is correct. i did not realize that one of the tamil words i had used stands for prostitute in english. i have so far not had the inclination to do a comprehensive research on the tamil words i use in my posts but this post (in which i used the word) has made me realize that i need to be more careful in future.

i must say that it is interesting that you were not curious enough to check the meanings of those tamil words despite all the protests here. on the other hand you expect the SIs to embrace hindi and accept it as the link language? do you see the problem?

i did check the meanings of the words i used but the site where i saw this phrase did not have 'prostitute' in the translation. if you are really interested i could give you the link to the site in a private note to prove to you that i am telling the truth.

You think any Tamil speaker will need a 'site' to call you names in Tamil?

I LOL-ed on reading this thread so early in the morning , realized i can wake some one up and controlled my laughter.

Rashmun,
I think you need to seriously go and consult with a medical professional. Maria can help with finding the right specialist.

In regards to your question, Max has already explained that thevidiya means prostitute.

I'll explain the etymology of the word. thevidya is the shortened form of thevar + adiyal . "Thevar" meaning God and "adiyal" meaning slave and used to refer to the group of folks who are destined to serve God and usually reside in or around temples. They are the temple dancers and used to excel in arts , preserve and propagate for generations. In the course of time, instead of being slaves to God they became slaves to the kings / priests and powerful people and gradually the term came to mean a prostitute. Famous singer M.S.Subbulakshmi belongs to the clan.

Wiki'ed the term. I thought "self" would be more appropriate. But why is this a curse word? What's the backstory?

Does anyone know a hindi word for it, or maybe our bimaru men are too stiff or... hmm...

Though it doesn't say son of a prostitute, it mentions "son of a bitch".

thaanoombi thevidiya paiyan Auto fellatio son of a bitch

There you go Saamiyar, a small consolation. Rashmun just called your mom a bitch not a prostitute.

Ponni, the reason why i will not take your advice is because you are biased. the reason you are biased against me is because i have kicked your a$$ on several occasions on sulekha, primarily for hatemongering against muslims.

On another note, Ponni, this may be of some interest to you (read the last line carefully):

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/29/nyc-subway-shoving-death-_n_2381540.html?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmaing10%7Cdl2%7Csec1_lnk3&pLid=250874&utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false#sb=1546127,b=facebook

NEW YORK -- A woman who told police she shoved a man to his death off a subway platform into the path of a train because she has hated Muslims since Sept. 11 and thought he was one was charged Saturday with murder as a hate crime, prosecutors said.

Erika Menendez was charged in the death of Sunando Sen, who was crushed by a 7 train in Queens on Thursday night, the second time this month a commuter has died in such a nightmarish fashion.

Menendez, 31, was awaiting arraignment on the charge Saturday evening, Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown said. She could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted. She was in custody and couldn't be reached for comment, and it was unclear if she had an attorney.

Menendez, who was arrested after a tip by a passer-by who saw her on a street and thought she looked like the woman in a surveillance video released by police, admitted shoving Sen, who was pushed from behind, authorities said.

"I pushed a Muslim off the train tracks because I hate Hindus and Muslims ever since 2001 when they put down the twin towers I've been beating them up," Menendez told police, according to the district attorney's office.

This is the worst kind of personal insult. I had been thinking that name calling is some sort of outlet to have fun, and I suspect most folks here do that just for fun, mostly to portray and associate a real or imagined prejudice to the person

But, this is very personal. Even if said in a fit of anger, I am amazed that this person (whoever he really is) refuses to apologize. This indicates that this was said with intent to humiliate. It is a new low.

In addition, I see repeated statements soliciting users to post in his forum. His adverts have a message, that discussions in his forum supposedly are without the use of bad language.

It is ironical, that he is using bad, filthy , language in this forum. All this leads one to suspect his intentions. I did not know about this ignore list until now. Thanks to the admin for letting us know.

You are quoting what he said in 2008. Now, looking at his son's fate, he may be saying something else in colorful Kadapa-Telugu to MT and her chamchas.
