Question 6 - What happens when admin is not around?
What happens if the admin (Charvaka) is not around and something bad happens on here? Suppose Charvaka is on vacation or something, and we have troll posting NSFW photos on every thread. What then? Suppose somebody figures out a hack that will mess up this site like the thread killing hack on Sulekha and Charvaka is on a vacation. Who will ban the trouble-maker?

from what I've seen on other sites, there are two moderators...
I am sure there are different levels of privileges... those of admin, which can one person, and those of moderators, which can be two people...

Who is acceptable as a moderator to all of us? What prevents Charvaka from giving secret moderator powers to somebody without our knowledge? Just playing devil's advocate here.

from what he has said, he won't be moderating this much, and you have said the same too... I guess the strong minded ch'ers will try to drag him into moderating (or you if we are on the other forum). I can already see a setup of great caru/SP bashing... even on sulekha, people would suspect random posters to be moderators and bash them away, here they will know who exactly the moderators are.. so the two of you need to think this out.

Here's my answer to the question w.r.t. the Reddit Coffeehouse ( http://www.reddit.com/r/Coffeehouse/ ):
I am checking to see if I can resign as moderator of that forum and if the forum can exist without any moderators. The website clearly shows who the moderators are. So, if I resign and there are no moderators, everybody can see that.
If there are any issues which need admin intervention, I encourage members to contact the people who run the website directly through this link: [http://www.reddit.com/feedback/](http://www.reddit.com/feedback/). Not that unlike the owners of Sulekha, the people who run Reddit are actively involved in the website and will respond promptly. They even have a [blog](http://blog.reddit.com/) and [twitter](http://twitter.com/reddit) presence.
My aim is for us, the active participants of the forum, to be totally hands off and not have any more privileges than any other member of the forum. That is the only way to be above suspicion and create trust in people who may not be our friends.

Excellent points! What will he do if a QB or an LW imposes on Charvaka and asks him to ban a poster or delete a thread, or else they will complain to the authorities? I don't want that headache at all.

I don't want anybody to have even a hint of a doubt about me. There are enough rumors about me as it is. ;-)

We don't know that that is possible. If forumotion allows that, I am happy to resign as admin as well, once the forum is fully set up.SomeProfile wrote:I am checking to see if I can resign as moderator of that forum and if the forum can exist without any moderators.
The same holds for forumotion -- they are on Facebook and Twitter, and they are active on this site.SomeProfile wrote:If there are any issues which need admin intervention, I encourage members to contact the people who run the website directly through this link: [http://www.reddit.com/feedback/](http://www.reddit.com/feedback/). Thinking about it another way, the choice is to give over control to someone that is completely disinterested in CH (like Sulekha), or have someone who cares about CH be responsible to manage it. We know how Sulekha worked out for us.SomeProfile wrote:My aim is for us, the active participants of the forum, to be totally hands off and not have any more privileges than any other member of the forum. All users can see the full list of moderators any time they want to. The list is at https://such.forumotion.com/g2-moderators. So there are not secret moderators possible.SomeProfile wrote:What prevents Charvaka from giving secret moderator powers to somebody without our knowledge?

Re: Question 6 - What happens when admin is not around?
Ideally, I don't want that headache either. I recognize that I open myself up to lots of brickbats and unpleasantness by suggesting a forum where I am the admin. I am grateful to the 30+ CHers (including you) for the trust you have shown in me by joining this site, and the last thing I want to do is to squander it. Yet, that very trust is put to the test in this new arrangement. So I would prefer it if we could find a no-moderator platform that gives us the features we need.SomeProfile wrote:I don't want that headache at all.
Unfortunately, I don't see Reddit fitting that bill. Not being able to see where new posts are, requiring multiple human verifications, and frequent "overload" outages are all individually show-stoppers for me; put them all together and we have a non-starter there. And forumotion is one of the leaders in free forum services. Their infrastructure handles "millions of users every single day;" they cite 99.99% uptime, backup your forum daily and offer 24x7 free tech support.
