Please don't tell me that this is surprising!
Are doctors any different from any other human in anything..esp. Indian doctors- when it comes to our "cultural-oriented" behaviors (culture aside), much of it today certainly is about money/materialism too. Do we need Washington Post to tell us this. *in case there is any doubt..it's not uncommon among NRI doctors and all NRIs (not in 1980-85, I am referring to it in the 21st century. If there is anything surprising (to me)- it's sadly *women doctors/professionals are part of it too.

Especially the first child - second child statistic leaves no doubt whatsoever. This is disgusting!

I read that as "Indian Doctors too go for scaMMing..."

But, that is true as well. "let us do a scan" is a mantra when someone walks into a clinic or hospital in India.
