...It is a well-known fact that hospitals and doctors charge different rates for Medicare and Medicaid and Private insurance clients. For example, someone with NO INSURANCE is charged $800 for a MRI, while one with an insurance is asked to co-pay 20% at $800 with another $4,000 billed to the insurance company (who pays around $1200 as per agreement, with the rest 2800 written off - which the Tax payers absorb indirectly).

...Question is why aren't the lawyers and Govt charge the health care industry with DISCRIMINATORY business practices?

Doctors and hospitals are good enough to prolong your life enough to suck up every penny of yours - and then throw you out to die.

Indian hospitals charge less for patients without insurance who pay cash than for those who have their bills sent to the insurance companies. The opposite is true of American hospitals where they stick you with a huge bill if you don't have insurance as opposed to the rates they have negotiated with insurance companies that are far less.

In India, you can't leave an automile showroom without paying for the car and its insurance but you can leave the maternity ward without having insurance for the newborn. In America, you can buy a car without insurance but you will be hardpressed to leave OB Gyn without having insurance coverage for the baby.

Its a strange world we live in.
