Actor Pran to receive this year's Dadasaheb Phalke Award
The arch villain of Bollywood, Pran [color:fa50=#0000ff !important]Krishan Sikand - or Pran as he is popularly known - was Friday named for the Dadasaheb Phalke award.
The actor turned 93 in February this year.
Confirming the news, a source from the Information & Broadcasting Ministry told IANS: "Yes, he (Pran) is getting [color:fa50=#0000ff !important]Dadasaheb Phalke award."
Pran acted in over 400 movies in a career spanning over six decades and played a vast range of roles -- from a hero to a villain to a character artist.
He became a symbol of hatred after his portrayals of a bad guy in a series of films including hits like "Madhumati", "Ziddi" and "Ram Aur Shyam".
If he played a villain to the hilt, he was equally good when he stepped into character roles and won many hearts as loveable Mangal Chacha in "Upkar", thoroughly entertained as street-smart fraud in "Victoria No.203", and epitomised on-screen friendship in the role of a rough but [color:fa50=#0000ff !important]kind Pathan in "Zanjeer".

Re: Actor Pran to receive this year's Dadasaheb Phalke Award
Thanks SI and TBT, for the comments and quawali link.
Actually, Pran started in the movies as a hero long ago and was quite successful in that role. But the industry / studios noticed that he was even better in the roles as a villain. Since there was a great need at that time for a good movie villain, producers etc. asked him to stick to acting as a villain, which he did with a great success.
Because of Pran playing the role of a great baddie in the movies, he brought the best in stars acting opposite him as heroes. It generally improved the quality of movies making them great successes and turned many actors into matinee idols (favorite movie stars). You can watch Pran’s superb villainous acting roles in many great hits (including Mere Mehboob, Khandan etc.).
Here is an excellent song / dance (“Hey Jamalo” by Rafi and Asha filmed on Gopi Krishna and Helen in dance routine) from the movie “Pooja ke Phool”. Pran (a real baddie in the movie) is shown during this dance sitting with a girl under the tree (@2:28) and he even dances / sings (with her @3:00) briefly in this number. Enjoy,
