Last week while returning from Orlando the guy next to me didn't bother to introduce himself but merely wanted to know what it cost me for the airline ticket. I wasn't sure why he asked but told him what I had paid. He smiled and said, "Oh, you got robbed paying the full price. I paid less than half what you paid", and began to brag about his shopping skills. Then said, "You know it adds a lot more enjoyment to my travel when I find I paid less than my fellow passenger." I thought WTF. Sure enough, ignored him the rest of the flight.

You should have said....yeah rite...but my company paid for the ticket - that makes the ticket $0 to me.

P.S. It could not have been me bcz I only talk to my next seater if it is a young female.

my brother told me a trick once and i understand now what he meant...say u r in a new city and dont know whats the fair fare is to go from Point A to B.
The autowalah tells you its Rs 90. Just give it to him. Give him 100... Like oh i am in such a good mood today---you be happy too! here...keep the change

So even if he is robbing you, at least he'll not the pleasure of taking more money from you. He'll be like WTF, had i asked her for Rs 150, she prolly would have given me that as well.

Next time someone brags about how good they are at saving money on air tickets, tell them you used to be like them but then you realized it wasnt worth the hassle..you'd rather use that time to make more money than try to save couple hundreds here n there on air tickets vacation rentals etc.

Where did you learn that ? If you gave Rs 100 instead of 90, I would think you are loaded and definitely loot you... Razz

I usually automatically ask 50to 75% of what he wants, and observe his reaction. no matter what he says, I start waving another auto. If your rate is within his range, he will hurriedly ask you not to call other autos. If your rate is way too low, he will gladly drive away leaving you to other autos. Now you know where your rate stands.

Oh...I usually add 20 to 25% to the agreed fare IF NOTHING was demanded. If asked/demanded after reaching the destination, he gets NOTHING extra. If he tries to pull a fast one half way through, I ask him stop right there. Once a cabbie did that and when I asked him to stop immediately. He refused and I simply opened the door and let it wide open. He was scared the door will be hit by other cars on the road and pulled over. Another time, I simply walked out of the auto at a signal.

Well anyway...not sure if I still have that kind of guts and aggressiveness in me.
