again, saar, it's all the weather's influence and how it shaped our culture. just like the toilet paper usage and water wash - it must have been bloody cold to clean up when getting hot/warm water required efforts and expensive at least a century ago in europe. cold, raining most of the year shaped those european and other countries culture which had distinct seasons, while definitely chennai, didn't. but then i certainly am not condoning the depraved negligence of civic duty of the middle class desis, particularly those that had spent significant amount of time here or in European countries.

I heard Malaysia and Singapore with a similar weather conditions are quite clean. It seems in Singapore, the least clean place is where the Indians live in large numbers.

Don't you think they deserve that kinda of reasonable salary. You cannot keep kanakku for keeping the surroundings clean. Learn from America - look at their credit/debit ratio.  We pay taxes and we will have to spend it on basics.

If you dont pay up here, they will cut the utilities and your credit will go down. India is nowhere near that. poor assume they have a right to steal water, power, or anything else... there is no fear of punishment. Privatization has to go hand in hand. There are so many security guys are dept stores in INdia. The fear of getting caught is clearly shown. we used to say that ppl would run away with things if western style dept stored opened in India. so there is  away...but utilities are more difficult to priviatize in India.
