Recently I have on several occasions have interacted with Indian muslims and increasingly they have started using the word ALLAH HAFIZ instead of KHUDA HAFIZ .

Now use of the word Allah hafiz was started by pakistani dictator Zia ul haq .

My question is---why do Indian muslims use the word allah hafiz instead of the traditional khuda hafiz , when the whole thing was started by a Pakistani dictator ?? Wont that make others feel that  they are under the cultural influence of Pakistan ??

Probably because they don't know that they are mixing Arabic and Persian. "Khuda hafiz" is pure Persian and "Allah hafiz" is Arabic-Persian mixture. Some mullah must have said pure Persian is a Shia thing, and in order to bring Sunni-ness into the greeting "Khuda" should be replaces with "Allah." But they didn't mess with the "hafiz" part because it's moving too far away from their traditional greeting.
