Immigration Bill
At a cost of roughly $30 billion, the legislation would double the number of U.S. Border Patrol agents along the U.S.-Mexico border to roughly 40,000 and require the construction of 700 miles of fencing along the southern border. In addition to a “surge” of border agents
-> Perhaps they should outsource this to Mexico so it would be 100 times cheaper and would still keep proper influx of illegal immigrants.

This is just the first run for this Immigration bill. Usually it takes 2 to 3 Congresses to pass it successfully. With the Repubs controlling the House, this has a very long way to go.

Re: Immigration Bill
I have been pretty much ignoring the bill so far, because the Senate version doesn't have enough momentum to get through the House. And it looks like the House won't pass anything that provides a way forward for illegal immigrants. So whatever the House does pass won't get through the Senate, or if it does, Obama will veto it, and we will be back to square one. I was hoping the GOP learned the lesson of the 2012 election, but apparently it has not.

Did the Democrats learn the lesson of Obamacare when they lost the House?

No, the people started learning that Obamacare wasn't the fearsome thing they were told it was, and Democrats started returning to the idea of selling it.Hellsangel wrote:Idéfix wrote:I have been pretty much ignoring the bill so far, because the Senate version doesn't have enough momentum to get through the House. When it comes to the politics, I am glad the GOP hasn't learned the lesson of 2012. It bodes well for the 2016 contest, although it sucks for immigrants who have to wait for relief.
