Appalamma:
4,7,10,and 12 are incorrect.

Hints:
On 10 - think the recent floods and loss of life.
On 12 - think of a former handle of a present handle here
On 7 --  Some people answered Gujarat. The city that Jinnah was born is in Gujarat alright. And its name adds a great irony too.
On 4  -- Pandavas were of "chandra-vamsha." Rama was of "surya-vamsha." (gagana-adhipa-sat-kulaja). I was thinking of an Indian dynasty of relatively modern times. They ruled North India with Peshawar (Purushapura) as their capital.

Nope. Hirakud dam is the longest, but not the highest.

Up until 2006 Bhakra Nangal was the highest. Then came along a newer dam that topped it. What is that new dam?

The last major dynasty I know of whose capital was in Purushapura were the Kushanas from the first half of the first millennium. I don't know if they claimed descent from Surya.

Set solved. Answers:

1.       What natural event which occurs every 50 years causes dread in Mizoram?  ---- Flowering of a special bamboo, which attracts rats. After they are done eating the bamboo flowers, rats invade the crops.
2.       Who is the latest winner of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award? ---- Pran (whose long, wicked, long-winded dialogues prove beyond any doubt that Hindi and Urdu are different, because you don't understand them)
3.       What is the screen name of Ajay Singh Deol? ---- Sunny Deol
4.       Kings of which dynasty were described as the sons of God? ---- Kushans (the earlier Kushans were more Chinese than Indian). Kanishka was their most famous king.
5.       What was the name of Gautama Buddha’s mother, wife, and son? --- Mayadevi, Yashodhara, Rahul
6.       Who led the 1928 Bardoli Satyagraha against the British? ------ Sardar Patel
7.       Where was Jinnah born? ---- Karachi (I thought Porbandar, same as Mahatma Gandhi, but that was not the case).
8.      Name a famous daughter of Emperor Ashoka. --- Sanghamitra
9.       In Maharashtra the Western Ghats are known by the name of ---- ? ----- Sahyadris
10.   What is the highest dam in India? ----- Tehri dam across Bhagirathi in Uttarkhand. Hirakud across the Mahanadi in Orissa is the longest.
11.   Who is Mihira according to mythology? ----- Surya, the Sun God.
12.   Which goddess is referred to as Vedamata? ---- Gayatri.
