In some traditions, there is also a rope that the groom ties around the bride's waist. It reminded one of my European friends of a new owner tying up his cattle with a rope.bw wrote:it means that in addition to the noose around her neck(thali), he has a hoop around her toe just in case he needs to pull her by the feet.goodcitizn wrote:Doesn't the bridegroom insert rings on the toes of the bride? Yes, this is called the 'yOktha dhAraNa' and there is procedure that you tie the knot on the left side and move it around in 'pradakshiNa' direction to the right side.Idéfix wrote:In some traditions, there is also a rope that the groom ties around the bride's waist. Scientific theories. I do wear that noose and when at the peak of arguments - transfer the noose around his neck. After the situation calms down - the noose is transferred back to my neck. It happens a lot in our home. Once my MIL fainted witnessing this acts....bw wrote:it means that in addition to the noose around her neck(thali), he has a hoop around her toe just in case he needs to pull her by the feet.goodcitizn wrote:Doesn't the bridegroom insert rings on the toes of the bride? lol I was using that for the same purpose as well back in desh - it is convenient to carry safety pins around given the dress code there.goodcitizn wrote:Nila wrote:LOL! Once my H was wearing the noose for about a week and before he transferred back he removed all those extra charms (few were my lucky charms) coz it was hurting him and was making it uncomfortable.
After my FIL my MIL converted her noose to a heart shaped photo pendent and stores the pic of FIL. She used to verbal abuse my FIL for ages and now framing him around - funny. But I do rub it on her face all those curse words she used at him whenever I get an opportunity. Once she lost that tiny pic of the pendant and she was throwing an Oscar deserving drama...was very entertaining.
Lesson learned: Never ever bad mouth your H in front of your DIL - use the online forums.
