phone-stealing monkeys. some puneri thieves have trained monkeys to steal smartphones from the unsuspecting punekars. one hundred cellphones and counting.


The residents have observed that the monkeys visit their homes in morning when they are hungry and walk away with cell phones. In recent spurt, the group of three monkeys went on a rampage on lane opposite to Joshi Railway Museum threatening the citizens. The young monkey lifted the mobile phone of Veena Shetty of Ganesh Park society. When the residents raised a commotion, the monkey dropped the phone. In the mean time, Senior Police Inspector Shrikant Navle of Kothrud Police Station, PMC officer and animal lover Ram Bhutkar and forest official Thube were called in.
