Men give up... Empty Men give up...

Post by Guest Fri Sep 20, 2013 7:38 am

Men give up caring about their appearance at an average age of 46. Women try another 13 years, before finally giving up at 59.

Source: radio.

Comments. Daughter, 'mommy does this mean in 6 years papa will finally stop taking a shower just to go to get milk from the deli?'

Good for you. I went on this website today to calculate my body fat. It asked me to measure various parts of my body. My right thigh now measures same as my waist when I was 17! Not unexpected, but ya.

Body fat was 32%! Aiyo. Will track this now.

i am not there yet, but there has been a transformation in my thinking. i used to exercise -- bike, run, lift weights etc. with a certain weight and appearance goal in addition to the usual health benefits. i don't give a crap about the benefits to appearance anymore. i just pick an activity that holds my interest for a reasonably long period of time (right now that's biking) and lets me enjoy myself in the process. it's all about the exhilaration that comes from being out at 6 in the morning on a weekend in the cold air, conquering a hill or a set of hills, or biking a certain distance that was previously hard. if there are some other beneficial side effects that's great.

life's too short to allow oneself be disappointed by the non-achievement of the loss of the last five pounds or losing the very last bit of belly fat. bike, drink, and be merry. as long as my cholesterol numbers are ok, i feel good, and my bp is low, who cares!

There were others too, one of which gave my fat % 27. This one gave 32. To me this seems more accurate.

Also it's not just about weight. The Radio host said he is wearing same clothes from many years ago, some men stop coloring their hair, and so on.

Very true. It is all in god's hands anyway. He has the master plan. We are merely puppets.

VB, try weights! You can do cardio eight hours a day in middle age, and yet you won't see the same results as an hour and a half of free weights every other day. I experienced the same thing as I got into my thirties. Slower metabolism, and I couldn't eat like I could in my twenties without seeing the weight creep up on me.

I would start with the 30-Day Shred by Jillian Michaels. All you need are free weights from Target which will cost you less than fifteen bucks.

I am doing light weights about 3 times a week. Hope to see the results in a few weeks, let's see.

Work your way up slowly to heavier ones. Don't rush the process. Just be consistent in your efforts and cut out all that sugar from rice and wheat. Go more beans, lentils, and veggies.

I agree. Start with lifting 5 pound weights and increase slowly.

In an year you could be lifting 200 to 220 pound weights.

This is horribly inaccurate information.

I mean you can have some brown rice or corn to get all your ten essential amino acids. Rice and beans OR corn and beans. Just go easy on the portion size. Calcium=weight loss. So, get lots of calcium daily. Collard greens, paneer, yoghurt.

No, it's not inaccurate. A woman's metabolism slows down a lot in middle age. Weights reverse that process. Men are different with their high testosterone.

He is now lecturing me how to lose weight. Daughter is making fun of me... 'You lost only 9 lbs, ha? You have to lose 25 more, ha? You really think you can do it?' Told her papa has thin bones while i have heavy bones. She is going, 'Really mommy? Thick bones? Told her to shut up. Told him to shut up too. I am going to sleep now.

139. It varies between 135-140.

Just had 13 variety of food/side dish  (besides rice/sambar/rasam) at 'onam' lunch at a friend's house (met thru Sulekha 10 years ago). Weather is perfect and had patio lunch served in plates made of stiched-dry-leaves. Couldnot stay for tea...Great food and hospitality!

how are these mentions of one's weight helpful? 139 could be very heavy for a 5 ft person.
