BANGALORE: A 31-year-old Bangalore-origin software engineer was killed after she fell from an 11th-floor flat in Sahakarnagar, Bangalore, in the early hours of Wednesday. Kavita S Arumugam fell while jumping from one balcony of the apartment to another, which was 3.5 feet away, police sources said.
On Tuesday night, Kavita, a US resident, was visiting her friend and wildlife filmmaker Kalyan Varma's flat in D Block of Alpine Pyramid in Canara Bank Layout. After partying at the home of a doctor friend in the area on Tuesday night, Kavita, Kalyan and another friend, Vidya, returned to Varma's flat, Kodigehalli police said. "We returned to my flat around 2am. Kavita was standing near the balcony around 2.15am. It was the last time I saw her," Varma told police.
The friends were preparing their beds when they realized Kavita was missing. "We went to the balcony. Not finding her there, we looked down. We were shocked to see Kavita lying on the ground," another friend said. Kavita had died from serious head injuries.
Saldanha, Kavita's maternal uncle, told the police she slipped while trying to jump between two balconies. "Kavita tried to jump across a 3.5-foot gap, lost balance and slipped," police quoted him as saying.
"Kavita was trying to jump to the bedroom balcony from the living room one," a cousin told TOI.
An alumnus of Mount Carmel College and Sir MV Institute of Technology, she had moved to the US 10 years ago for her postgraduate studies. After doing her MS, she joined E-Clinical Works in Boston as a software training specialist.
She returned to Bangalore in June to attend her younger sister Karen's wedding. Kavita's father is a director of an elevator company, while her mother, Concepta is a member of the Konkani Welfare Association, Rajajinagar.

>>> Not bad looking girl.
Jumping from one balcony to the other on the 11th floor?
May be she had quite a few drinks.
