What the writer of this article misses is why Gandhi is revered.

1. Gandhi is one of the most important icons of last 200 years of ordinary persons resistance to the efforts of the powerful people taking away elements of human dignity.
2. While the idea of civil disobedience existed before Gandhi but he made it a tool of the masses fighting for their rights.
3. Gandhi demonstrated the power of nonviolent protest in a civilized society.

He understood India, its people and its culture. He understood how religion can support change. His methods spread the indepence movement to all corners of India and bought the old people and women along with young men.
compared to his accomplishments, his mistakes are miniscule
