PUDUCHERRY: Four teachers of a government high school were suspended on Thursday for allegedly watching pornographic content in the school computer in Puducherry.

Parents alleged that the teachers also forced girl students to watch pornographic content and sexually molested them.

The issue came to light when a girl student of Thiru Vi Ka government high school, Arumpathapuram, told her parents that a teacher had forced her to watch pornographic content and molested her. Her parents, the members of parents-teachers' association of the school and general public picketed the school on Wednesday demanding immediate action against the teachers. Director of school education E Vallavan reached the school and held peace talks with them assuring immediate action against the teachers.

PTA members said they had raised this issue a month ago with the competent authorities accusing that three teachers had been abusing the girl students.

Puducherry Parents, Teachers and Students' Welfare Association president M Narayanasamy said the authorities had merely suspended the teachers without realizing the gravity of the crime committed by them. He charged that as on Thursday the government had neither ordered a departmental inquiry nor initiated any police or legal action.

"The director initially assured us that the teachers will be transferred to another school. But we insisted on stringent punishment for them. However, the government merely suspended them. It did not order any departmental inquiry and did not also initiate any police action," Narayanasamy said.

He said the association had decided to help the victims and their parents to lodge a police complaint if the government failed to take any stringent action against the teachers in a couple of days.

However, Vallavan refuted the PTA's claim that it had earlier lodged complaints with him about the teachers watching pornographic content and harassing the girl students. Talking to TOI, he said that a thorough review found that four teachers had been watching pornographic content in the school computers.

"We received a few complaints that the teachers are irregular and are not handling classes. But there were no complaint on teachers watching pornographic content or forcing girl students to watch the content or molesting them. The academic performance of the school has come down in the last two or three years. We undertook a thorough review on Wednesday and found that four teachers have been browsing pornographic content in the school computer. The department suspended the four teachers. However, allegations on teachers forcing girls to watch the contents or molesting them can be confirmed only after a departmental inquiry," Vallavan said.

Three trained graduate teachers -- Jude Anbalagan, Siva Kumar and Abdul Malik -- and a physical education teacher - Abdul Rasheed - are the suspended staff.

Vallavan replied in the negative when he was asked whether the department had ordered an inquiry and sought police action against graduate teachers Jude Anbalagan, Siva Kumar and Abdul Malik and physical education teacher Abdul for their alleged crime. He said that he was not in town on Thursday and would order an inquiry as soon as he reaches Puducherry in a day or two.

Vallavan said the government would decide on the further course of action against the teachers based on the findings of the inquiry.

Unfortunately, it happened in Puduchery, the only state in which the Chief Minister Rangasamy (his own breakaway congress party), who goes around in bicycle with no security or body guards, is ruling that state. So no UPA Madam or Shezada or CBI to subvert the case and support the criminals.
