Yes. This can be fatal. Not sure it is specific or prevalent in NW or Rajasthan. My elder bro told me about fever/jaundices of colleagues who visit this region. It attacks liver which is the primary source of elimination of toxins in our body.
He too got sick once and luckily he was saved by the timely intervention by a natural/ayurvedic doctor.

OMG!! This is so shocking! I used to watch that series religiously as a fellow hyderabadi, Karunya, was one of the contestants. Sandeep was the winner. He was cute, ever smiling and had a great attitude. So sad!

people don't die of jaundice just as they dont die of coughing. They are just symptoms.
When liver is affected by say Hep B, Hep C (sex/needle based), tylenol overdose, or plain overdrinking (must be a drunk for many many years) and a couple of other possibilities, people develop jaundice.
So what killed him - really?

Yes, it can happen. A collegemate of mine died of jaundice. And both his parents were doctors. From what I remember he had a form of jaundice that isn't easily detectable.

yes of of course...viral hepatitis - but what type ? in THOSE days ppl did not know much about B and C (discovered in the 80s), and now you have D and E. In Simple language, the liver is "affected" by some virus and it is not working as well as it should. One of the most common first symptoms is Yellowing of skin - jaundice. Until the 90s, most medical practitoners did not know the reason (there was no internet and Indian docs rarely read journals) and what exactly caused the liver problem. So it was very common to say "the person died of Jaundice".
Anyway....he died.
