windshield wipers failed (i think the motor burned out) about five miles from home on the freeway in the middle of a blinding snowstorm and unplowed roads. that's about the most scared i've been in a good long while. crawled home with hazard lights on. good that everyone else was crawling.

know what that means.

Something bizzare happened to me too today. I was coming home with the kids from the mall. Just as we enter, we see two cops cars, one ambulance.  She began freaking out. I am like oh don't worry, either a CO alarm went off, or maybe someone old lives here.

Then we get closer and see one car on the road, and people standing. Hmm, the car and people seem all right, what then? And THEN like a disney theme park set, we see a perfectly overturned truck in the woods by the driveway. As we see more, we see people/police bending down to see under it too. Just could not make sense of it. Older is FREAKED OUT as she is doing driver's ed. Younger one spotted his friend's mom standing there. Will ask her t'row morning.

Asked XH if he saw it too. He had no clue what we were talking about. Meaning all that happened in the 20 minutes gap of each of us getting home. I was telling daughter, 'if we didn't go to Rite Aid, we would have walked into this accident while it happened'.

the oddest thing is it worked perfectly well this morning. i have to conclude it was so cold and i had the air going full blast. that melted the falling snow too rapidly and it ran down and refroze somewhere in the wiper mechanism and jammed things up. it was really cold when the snow was coming down. i can't think of any other possible explanation. really weird.

You still may want to have it checked out, you don't want a repeat of this.

You were so lucky. Be equally thankful it didn't happen at night.

What kind of wiper fluid do you have? De icing one? And do you squirt the windshield from time to time in a snow storm?

it happened very much at night! last night during the storm. sun sets here at 4.30 PM or so these days. so as long as i was behind someone it was fine. the fun was when i exited the freeway with nobody ahead of me and had to negotiate it in darkness with snowbanks piled high on both sides.

ah! that might be it. i have to check. i buy it wholesale at the price club and picked it up during last summer. maybe it isn't the de-icing one. thank you sherlock. i am now almost certain you've put your finger on it.
