Advice on diapers and babies
posted by VP in Sulekha when a woman asked about where to get diapers in Hyderabad:-
You seem to be having worries on the non availability of baby diapers. Cool down madam babies can also be raised without diapers. I know it is a lot of in-convenience while taking them out but you forget that the best of baby diapers are full of chemicals and wood pulp that produce skin allergies on the sensitive skins of babies. It is called contact dermatitis or eczema. Harsh bleaching agents are used to make the diaper give that sparkling white appearance and wood pulp which contains cellulose, is cheaper than cotton, and lighter to the feel. All things said and done, even though it increases your chore of looking after your baby, a diaper less baby could be a more healthier baby too!!! Buy more of cotton nappies and after every time the baby 'su--soos' change it. But before changing the nappy, clean the wet areas with water and use a soft turkish baby towel to dry the area, apply some good quality baby talcum powder and give her/him a new cotton nappy. The smile on their face would put a 1000 watt bulb to shame

Before commercial diapers, women used cloth diapers, and a rubber sheet under the infant. Most healthy!

If we have guests with infants/toddlers with commercial/cloth or even no diapers, we provide complimentary rubber/vinyl sheets to use on the beds they sleep on.

What a great idea. Must have come from diaper leaks, accidents, eh? When infants visit, be prepared.
