Warren Buffett, chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.BRKB -1.49%, said if he owned J.P. Morgan ChaseJPM -2.44% & Co., he would keep Chief Executive James Dimon at the helm and would pay him even more than he’s making now.
Earlier on Friday, the bank disclosed in a filing that Mr. Dimon received a 74% jump in compensation in 2013, a year in which J.P. Morgan agreed to more than $20 billion in legal payouts and posted its first quarterly loss since the financial crisis.
The increase brought Mr. Dimon’s pay for 2013 to $20 million from the $11.5 million he pulled in for 2012. The board that year cut Mr. Dimon’s pay in half due to a trading fiasco that cost the bank billions, saying he had “ultimate responsibility for the failures that led to the losses.”
But in an interview Friday, Mr. Buffett called Mr. Dimon “a bargain.”
“If I owned J.P. Morgan Chase, he would be running it and he would be making more money than the directors are paying him,” said Mr. Buffett, who has publicly defended the bank executive before and owns J.P. Morgan shares.
He added J.P. Morgan was a “huge plus to the American financial system” during the financial crisis and did much better than other big banks through that period.
“If Jamie decides he wants to make more money, all he has to do is call me and I’d hire him at Berkshire,” the billionaire investor added.

Buffet did not work for a day with his hands. Sitting within 4 walls making money off of everyone's back he is the epitome of Wall Street looters.

YES. My philosophy is your work and money should be a consequence of that.
Finance and wall streeters who deal with stocks and bonds of steel and oil companies dont know diddly about how it is in those companies. They are just like casino gamblers.
Buffett is a shining example of that.

so studying companies to invest in and allocating capital based on knowledge acquired through the exercise of brain cells is not work?

No. Just like using brain cells to optimize drug distribution to make billions is not.

hahaha....but, think about various companies and fields. yes, they want to increase profits but thorugh products that have a very direct bearing on society and people's lives. When a company makes profit it does not ruin people's lives.
Now you compare all these investment bankers, investors, and looters and their wall-street firms.

I am not saying all bankers and wall streeters are saints, but financing is an integral system of civilized society. The role vysya community in India has done that for thousands of years. Appreciate the role of those who accumulate capital and finance others. Capital is the lubrication that runs capitalism.
Buffet is a long term investor whose investment are considered positive for stable economic development.

Well, for example in the case of Madoff, the bank knew it is a scam and they just protected their funds but continue to allow madoff exploit his clients. Do you thin you would praise such a person who is responsible for this crime? Or technically Dimone may not be responsible so he is exempt?MaxEntropy_Man wrote:Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:Buffet did not work for a day with his hands. Since you are giving an example of a specific case, here are the facts that were publically available.
Jp Morgan has a relationship with madoff. Jp Morgan's internal research raised flags based on profit consistency and advised internal business to not invest with madoff. Having learned that problem they are required by law to alert regulators. They did not. So they paid a huge fine.
Did Damon know about madoff? Did he hinder information going to regulators?

>>> I was about to post a response to Uppili when I read this. It pretty much reflects my sentiments. We need to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. It is one thing to punish the frauds and scam artists, but entirely another to disband the system.truthbetold wrote:Uppili

Venture capitalism and bonds are what drive capitalism and encourages industries.
Stocks are supposed to reflect the performance of a company...but these days the gambling casinos on wall street have turned that upside down. using stocks as no more than pieces of casino chips.
I appluad Buffet on his venture capital efforts, but stock "trading" without the buffons not knowing the efforts put on the shop floor is nothing but gambling.
Wall street activities are EXACTLY what go on in Atlantic City casinos.

Maulana Gaywala: read my response carefully - perhaps 3 times. And, you statement just goes to prove that today's wall street Looters - such as Verna driving Maulanas - lack ground realities.
BTW, Verna is a shytty car. Of course, you will never know bcz you probably dont even know how to open the hood to look under it. It has been more than a year and isn't it time for a Desi Desi to change his car to showcase his false status?

Countless. Have owned at least 14 to 15 makes at various times. But losing interest in cars and working on cars. Getting more interested in motorcycles these days.
(If my economic downturn continues, will move to bicycles and then all-natural 2-wheeler.)

What do you think of the Nissan Altima and how do you compare it to Honda Accord and Toyota Camry? In general do u prefer Japanese or German or US made cars.

It depends on the purpose behind my car and how much I want to spend. I dont like the German car...oh wait once I did own a US car made in Germany. Generally, if it is US made I will not go for a stick, and if Japanese prefer stick. I would not go for Mitsubishi or GM or Korean or British or Russian (cant believe the stupid Desis clamour for Skoda and Chevrolet).
