Ukraine: It is the US that is on trial

.....The Obama administration's street cred is very low. Everyone says no to the U.S., seemingly without consequence: al-Assad; Putin; Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai; North Korean leader Kim Jong-un; Iraq's President Nuri al-Maliki. It seems the U.S. even gets "yes, buts" from friends and allies like Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

US will have to follow Theordore Roosevelt philosophy to establish its credibility - not among its adversaries but, among its supporters.

i know the american media thinks somehow every problem in the world has some consequences for the US and/or that the US has influence in all corners of the world and can solve every problem in the world. that just isn't so. this ukraine invasion by putin is a perfect example. all anybody, the US or the EU can do, unless he starts gassing people saddam style, is to exert diplomatic power, sanctions etc. it's ridiculous how the talking heads on CNN were discussing how this was going to affect the midterm elections. excuse me, why does the election of some congressman in podunk USA have anything to do with crimea?

There is a difference when people are talking for money and the ones that talk in the evening at temples or park. They are "paid" experts and are expected to be right and thorough. The "others" do that to "exchange" their views. Having clarified, still the "others" are correct more often than these "paid" experts.

Ruskies did not make any statement while the EU and the West were supporting the opposition, making the deal with Yanukovich and then ditching. Bcz he must have been busy charting out plans and a course of action. The paid experts have a vested interest in what they say. Most of the time it is easy to predict what the Paid Expert is likely to say.

Read my post that Putin is acting on a well-set plan - does not matter who screams or threatens. And, the action till today follows what I said on day 1.

Exactly... There is not much for the West except for a chance to get access to the much coveted Black Sea bases. This is similar to Ruskies getting access to Cuban bases. Ruskies will never ever allow that - come what may - and that is so easy for anyone to understand.

The US/West will make all the noises for not getting the extra donuts but nothing else. Otehrwise, the West runs the risk of Ruskies throttling their gas lines. And now, THAT will affect the Western economy much much more than Ruskies "gobbling" up Ukraine. Ruskies will not take over Ukraine and will do a Georgianization on Ukraine.

Yes, I did Sishya... He was basically saying the "conservatives" are overstretching what Obama can do and exaggerating the importance of Crimean invasion. That is true about the conservative 'experts" but what else can we expect from them? Crimean episode is just crumbs in US equation.

It is not like the Russians invaded Syria.... now that will be something.
