Reserve Bank Of India Logo
what is the meaning of this ( link here ) logo? from the looks of it, the logo appears to show a well-fed tiger passing by what i think is a palm tree. i find it totally meaningless unless the RBI is suggesting that they will ensure that even a tiger can survive in the desert with their monetary policies.

Those bozos copied the lion and palm tree symbol from the gold mohurs issued by the EIC in the 19th century, which probably signified British dominion over the Middle East (and India), their nationalism limited to just replacing the lion with a tiger.

ROFL! it is the exact same logo except the animal. the branches are identical and even the tail. that's a fascinating discovery, agent.

Man, that's unbelievably lazy. I guess when they nationalized the RBI, they didn't bother to think about the logo.

The lion has been replaced by a tiger. Couldn't they have used an elephant instead?

that's not how i see it. the lion looks to tame or attack. the tiger, after a full meal, looks cautious (of whom? dinosaurs?)

Isn't it the same with all the laws, forms, and regulations ? They adapted everything in a hurry temporarily, and as always happens in India, the temporary became permanent (laziness)

Its a logo of RBI, which is never to be seen. Why bother? At least they did not copy the whole mohar into rupee coin. To their credit they did modify the leaves of the plant along with changing the beast.
BTW, were those coins still in use when India became independent? Indian went under direct rule after 1857 so East India Company coins should have ceased to be active currency by 1947.

If I remember right, RBI was started as a private bank during British times. The rupee-denominated currency issued by RBI was legal tender in much of the Middle East, as well as Burma and Ceylon. (Kinda like the CFA Franc in Francophone Africa.) I guess the British / desi babus who worked for the British created the logo for RBI based on the EIC logo.artood2 wrote:BTW, were those coins still in use when India became independent? apparently RBI was almo the central bank for Pak till their bank became functional in 1948. A few emirates used Indian currency internally till they struck
