Why not? And that is a more exclusive club than a MIT PhD, Harvard MBA or whatever..

>>.Wait.. what formalities? Are they looking into parental time spent wasted on online forums now? You seemed really nervous there for awhile
P.S. How many years for the degree+ residency+ specialization? My cousin's son just got done with gastro-enterology. It seemed like 12 years after undergrad.

4 yrs degree+2 yrs minimum for residency (more for different specializations)+some more yrs for super-specialization. yeah, it's going to be a loooong road ahead for him. It's going to be tough, but his passion for medicine should sail him through.

Really ???? where and which state is that ?
Kinny will make up for the money lost in all those years through increase in dowry. That is one big advantage the Andhrans and Telengans have.

P.S. A doctor is one thing I never could have been. Too much stuff to read and remember. Come to think of it, the only thing I remember wanting to be was a bus conductor. I thought it would be fun going on those buses all day.

I agree....I always loved the way bus conductors gave tickets, gave change back (in those days), and the ultimate write ticket numbers in their card ledger before the stage ended. Never stopped wondering until recently. One has to use a town bus in a 3d tier town to see that lost skill.
Another one was the hotel server reeling off the menu and serving 4 tables remembering every item ordered by every different person in those tables.

>>>Brings back memories. I used to ride on the footboard. Remember the conductor's seat in the back on PTC buses? I remember trying to make small talk with a girl sitting there and one of the other passengers started making noises and wanting to pick a fight with me. India is full of inquisitive third parties...*Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:Kris wrote:

No@2 yr residency? I am not much informed. I just bought a book from amazon today that gives all the info abt the medical programs for the students entering med school. Hope i'll be more informed when i read that book, If not, i always have Saamiyaar to clear my doubts and for SOS situationsMarathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:Kinnera wrote:lol!Kris wrote:Kinnera wrote:Ok...the excitement was abt sonny1 getting into a med school in the md program. Your principle of not taking a dowry in uncompromised, I am a bit richer for it and since there is no quid pro quo involved, I will think of it as charity. Thanks/Kinnera wrote:No@2 yr residency? Re: YAAYYY!!!!
I kno...i kno...but vot2do? This addiction thing isn't cool. I was on Sulekha since he was 8 and the younger, 5. I've been around from talking abt the 'darnest things that my kids said' to 'my son got into med school.' I prolly will continue until, 'i got a grandkid!' and beyond....Kris wrote:>>>It's in the blood, Kinn. He has medicine and you have SUCH threads. Here is a tidbit. There is doom and gloom among 90% of the graduating med students - the ones that want to make big bucks - wondering how much they will be able to make and the turf war among various specialties about who can and should do what procedures. In short - if one goes into med school bcz it would pay big bucks at the end of a 3 yr residency, they are in for a rude shock (already).
If I say anymore you might ask your son to withdraw from med school and hence am not saying anything else.
All Andhrans and Telengans - who go for big dowries - overtly go only for a goodly DIL.
All I know is life is full of twists and turns and not everything goes per our wish and plan. So far so good and be happy with that.
Oh, BTW, congrats to your son...
