===> Please read the article in the weblink I posted under the title "Who are Thevars?"

Witness the pride and history of the thevar caste.

They have so much to be proud of.

I think the problem seems to be come from those group of people who are jealous about other castes who have been successful in the past. These disgruntled group of people are the ones who seem to cry hoarse about the caste system.

Can people like Kancha Iliah cite any historical figures from his caste?

1. At the outset, please note my disagreement with some of your views. i am totally opposed to any claim that people of some castes are somehow or in some way superior to people of another caste. the reason you do not find as many dalit intellectuals as you find upper caste intellectuals is because for a few thousand years dalits have been told, almost brainwashed, that they are inferior, fit for only menial work.

2. I am glad that Thevars have done some good things and i share your pride at the good things they have done of which they can rightly be proud of. But i wish to point your attention to another aspect:

now all i am saying is that there are good thevars and bad thevars just as there are good dalits and bad dalits and good brahmins and bad brahmins.

3. i am unable to give historical figures from kancha's caste because i don't know his precise caste (i think he is an OBC but the term OBC includes many different castes within it).

===> I totally agree with you that no caste is superior or inferior to any others.

But we cannot fault a Thevar if he looks up to his role models like Pasompon Ramalinga Thevar who was a general in INA or that his forefathers were warriors. If that fact empowers them to reach further heights, more power to them.

For example, Jews are proud of their achievements in many areas. This historical memory empowers them as a community.
