India no longer #1 in Test cricket
England will declare 1 hour before lunch tomorrow and swing to an easy victory. With just 2 1/2 batsmen, it is impossible. Of course, our Little Master Blaster will score his 100th 100 and that is enough for our Indian cricket.

Looks like my prediction is getting towards fruition.
BTW, among the wicketless Lfbhajan and Raina, raina seems to be a better off spinner.
May be Dhoni should bowl off spinners.

This team has done very well to hold on to the # 1 ranking for so long. But now it is time to say goodbye to the # 1 status. England is clearly the better team as the ageing Indian team with an excuse of a bowling attack has been cruelly exposed in this series. Another massive defeat looms large as the English batsmen plunder runs at will against a clueless Indian bowling lineup.

Re: India no longer #1 in Test cricket
indian bowling wilted under a little pressure. harbhajan has proven to be an embarassment. All of this is to be expected. Indian bowling has been mauled many times on good weather days on unrepsonsive wickets. It is to be expected till India finds a decent group of bowlers who can take wickets without much help from conditions and pitch.
This test as all of us are expecting is as good as lost. One can hope but it is too much too ask Indian batting to score 400 plus or even 500 runs on 4th innings. It has never been done before in test cricket. Weather will also turn in favor of swing over the next two days.
However, one can always hope for Rain.

Re: India no longer #1 in Test cricket
IND looks like an ordinary side in this test so far. yeah, dhobi may gives excuses like 'we have no gambhir, sehwag and zaheer khan' but you must also understand that ENG was without trott's services yesterday and swann is also nursing an injury. their opening pair is also not scoring many runs and it is no different than losing gambhir and sehwag.
these guys scored 400 runs in a day yesterday and that's telling. harbhajanitor singh's bowling was always pedestrian (except in 2001 against AUS). but dhobi's captaincy was also questionable yesterday. bell scored so many runs in the third man and fine leg region, yet dhobi had no fielder to protect these areas. he did not try to contain the runs when wickets were difficult to earn. the pitch is easing, but that's no excuse.
in both the tests, it is the resistance shown by ENG tail-enders that is making a lot of difference. even yesterday, morgan and prior (and even bresnan) scored briskly not respecting any of our bowlers. now broad and swann will follow them (if we take those two wickets) and plunder our bowling. compare that against IND tail which has no significant contribution in batting. the body language of all IND players yesterday said it all. they have given up on winning this one. only rain, laxman and dravid can rescue us.
aside, bell was supremely sublime yesterday. i watched the highlights and was impressed by his strokeplay. fantastic innings. we need one of those today and tomorrow.

Frankly, the Indian batting side can match very well with the English team - IF THERE ARE NO INJURIES with Sehwag, gambhir, Pujara all in the team.
But, the bowling dept is pathetically weak and honestly, weaker than the Windies team. The bowling strength is judged by their performance when the conditions dont help them. When conditions help, anyone - even Lafbhajan - will take wickets.
Seriously, Lafbhajan SHOULD BE kicked out.

add to it dhobi's captaincy and his batting. look at prior. look at haddin. look at their contributions and look at dhobi's contributions. he is only good for vadodara, kanpur, chennai, jaipur, nagpur (new stadium, not the old one) and delhi. give him a different track and he is anyone's wicket.

Re: India no longer #1 in Test cricket
Dhobi moved down to #7 to provide STABILITY to the middle and tail enders due to his hitting and scoring ability - that was 3 years ago. He started at #3 and as an opener. Perhaps, it is the right moment for him to open the innings and do a Sehwag. after all, this guy is not good enough to hold on with the weak tail enders that too on a foreign ground.
he can swing and slash as an opener and may hit a few boundaries and throw the english pacemen in some confusion for the Trinity to take advantage. I think he should seriously try that line in the second innings tomorrow.

Re: India no longer #1 in Test cricket
yes, that's worth giving a shot. he cannot do any worse as an opener than what he is doing now. if anything, that will help us score some quick runs. that way, the rest of the batting order will not change.
