Modi’s folksy humour sometimes does win audience approval, but too often these days his speeches are losing their gritty black comedy and coming across as laden with invective and bitterly harsh on everyone without exception. Instead of pursuing a line of discourse that sends a naughty chuckle through the audience, the words are beginning to evoke a shudder of discomfort.
A series of extremely funny Manmohan Singh jokes still do the rounds. But amidst the Modi masks, Modi posters, Modi cups and Modi pen drives which a reportedly 5 thousand crore advertising blitzkrieg has created, even among those who are ready to vote for Modi, there not a single Modi joke. A sign perhaps that while there is fear, undoubted respect and even awe at what Modi represents, there is very little familiar warmth. Instead there is a certain inexplicable resigned discomfort.

"Junk the staccato "mitron", instead opt for "mere bahut pyaare deshvaasi""
Why? Mitr communicates everything - affection, dearness, respect and all in one word. The 'mere bahut pyaare deshvaasi' reads very western and biblical where 'love' seems to be the only emotion on the planet. Everyone keeps on saying love you, love that, hugs and all without actually feeling anything deep enough.
This is what the missionary education system does to such high convent students. Even their expressions of warmth or affection are derived from the foreign culture. Nothing native sounds or feels good or profound enough.

I gave the relevant passage from Sagarika's blog in which she corroborates the amount said to have been spent by Modi/BJP in this election and mentioned by SV. This amount is Rs 5,000 crore.

And what is the issue with it? There is no legal limit for a Party level campaign spend in India. All such 'supposed limits', if any, have been consistently violated election after election at all levels by Congress and other corrupt/p-sec parties for decades and BJP started employing these tricks this time around. I can only see an establishment bias coming through SV or SG posts and no substance that is comment worthy.

Varadarajan should first worry about why he was fired by The Hindu. He should also stop behaving like an expert. He is just a mediocre journalistRashmun wrote:http://svaradarajan.com/2014/04/30/the-best-democracy-that-money-can-buy/
