Re: News for KV/Max
It seems this is how Jayalalitha’s party members pay homage to their leader by prefacing their questions in Lok Sabha with:
"My namaskaram to my leader, Puratchithalaivi Tamil Tai Amma and our honourable Speaker, popularly known as Hindi Tai ... Madam, with blessings of our leader, Puratchithalaivi Amma, I want to raise my first supplementary question.”
What does “puratchithalaivi” translate to?

Puratchi Thalaiavi comes from sanskrit. Puratchi has origin in Purattu (meaning lies), similar to buruda.

But, my important question is "Is Sithraman an Iyer or an Iyengar?"
JJ is an Iyengar. (one of my friend's mother is JJ's cousin and I have heard stories about JJ since the bygone era).

I don't ever "seem" to have asked for the meaning of that word, and "compelled" at that! It's a question put to those who care to respond, and I wouldn't care less if you do not wish to.MaxEntropy_Man wrote:indophile wrote:

"thayi," I believe, is another word for mother in Tamil. There is a Tamil song - thaaye tripurasaundari umamaheshwari.... on the divine mother. The same word meaning mother also appears in Kannada. thaayi-tande in Kannada is mother-father (parents). In Telugu it's thalli-tandrulu (parents).Beatrix Kiddo wrote:Tai means elder sister in Marathi.
Elder sister in Tamil/Kannada/Telugu is "akka."
But "akka" means mother in Sanskrit (but not in nice loving way).
Go figure.

She is fond of Krishna; may be an Iyengar? The father doesn't seem to have horizontal lines on the forehead! But she is married to a smartha (similar to Iyers).Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:MaxEntropy_Man wrote:but the spectacle of a bunch of sycophantic bozos who have long made a career out of demonizing brahmins, bowing and scraping before one is a sight to behold. thanks for posting.

Yeah. It's easy if we stick to Itrans method of transliteration. That's what we use for Sanskrit transliteration. There are many software programs that can let you go back and forth between Itrans and Devanagari. Here is the Wiki on Itrans. ("t" sound is like in mitra/putra, and "T" sound is like in vaaTika/auto/note etc.

What happened? I thought you were once considered a model poster - with puzzles and quizzes, and the CMAGS cited as a model accommodative hindu.
Guess your unrelenting support to Modi ji outted your Chaddiness and now you are a marked and on the shyt list of CMAGS group.
Or, MaxE is in a peri-mAnopausal stage.

Because your country's constitution does not permit a minister to speak in parliament in anylanguage other than Hindi and English.

JJ is an Iyengar. (one of my friend's mother is JJ's cousin and I have heard stories about JJ since the bygone era).
Krishna, Krishna
As the dessert — kheer and malpua — arrive, Ms Sitharaman volunteers suddenly, “Sitting here is so appropriate. I have been doing a study on Krishna worship in India in temples where Krishna is named as Krishna in the moolasthana. There is enough evidence to show that in these temples the puja padhathi is not derived from the agamashastras or Vedic narration only. In fact, they have all picked up on verses derived during the Bhakti movement.” We nod knowledgeably.
She points out how in the east coast, Krishna has become Balaji, Jagannatha and so on, whereas on the west coast, right from Dwaraka, Vittala or further down to Udupi or Guruvayur, they have all been following a worship pattern that is written by Krishna bhaktas — songs written by the local devotees.
Of the people, by the people, for the people, we suggest. But there hasn't been much time to study Krishna worship traditions recently."

>>>'Puratchi' is revolution, 'Thalaivi' is leader in feminine form. MGR was 'Puratchi Thailavar'. No one is quite clear on what exactly the revolution was, but in keeping with the ethos of indian politics, those are technicalities that don't matter. It is along the lines of referring to yourself as Dr. so-and-so based on the honorary doctorate given to you by an online university.indophile wrote:It seems this is how Jayalalitha’s party members pay homage to their leader by prefacing their questions in Lok Sabha with:

I have decided to give myself a title and will work on it.
My preferred title is "Sri Sri Dr. Commander Saamiyaar" but one with a similar title got into a lot of trouble.
ahhhh... just now the tubelight came on.
