Re: dr scholls
i used to wear arch supports myself--tried various kinds including dr scholls. then i started wearing asics shoes and found i had no need to wear arch supports. that is not the case with nike or adidas or reebok shoes for which i definitely need to wear arch supports.
but if the condition is serious the person needs to go for customized orthotics through a podiatrist. also any weight loss will help alleviate the need for arch support while weight gain will lead to an aggravation of the problem.

The shoe inserts that I would recommend are 'WalkFits." Get the platinum version. I suffered from plantar fasciitis and once I started using those walkfits I felt no mare pain. You can get those inserts on Amazon, or directly from the Walkfit site ($19.95).

I have 2 pairs of custom orthotics from a podiatrist in my hiking boots or main work sneakers (that I take out when I start having issues). Other than that, I get some insoles from those sports stores, forgot the name. Basically you heat them up for a few seconds, put them in your shoes and immediately step in. I use those for other asics sneakers which I use for all other workouts. Very good for high impact exercises as well, soft. For zumba, I have zumba shoes, flexible enough that don't appear to be breaking my feet in half when I am doing some moves. Other than that, I buy not-so-glam looking sandals and pumps that have a decent arch support or can do with those gel support insoles. For all other suck-it-up occasions I wear whatever, luckily there aren't too many.

forgot to add: I also win the ungliest-shoes award in most settings. this is something I have pushed on to next birth. May I get to sport dozens of pretty shoes in next life.

Soul and arch support are a sign of middle-middle age.

hm...I see..
Let me spell it out for you...
When people talk about Soul support, Soul matching, Soul partner and other such Soul crap, it is a sign of middle, middle age. You may not understand it bcz you are way past that stage - reverting back to your elementary school grammar/spelling stage (your sole skill that you still remember). Do you get a lolly pop after your weekly spelling test ?

The inability to understand the "pun" is another sign.
