Why rice in a country struggling with increasing diabetes cases? Why not something healthier?

Re: Rice Bucket Challenge
Why do you think corn flakes is the only alternative to rice? Did you not read my other post where I mentioned healthier alternatives to rice? In my village in India many poor people are suffering from diabetes. They get free rice from some government scheme or the other, and have stopped eating jowari roti, ragi etc because of a notion that they are "poor man's food" and beneath their level. This recent trend of eating rice 3 times a day has most likely contributed to increasing diabetes cases. Meanwhile in the city of Hyderabad, Jowari roti stalls are doing brisk business thanks to the city folks who want to eat it as a healthier substitute for rice.southindian wrote:Ask the poor in India...looking for 1/2 the bowl of rice for daily meal and not Kelloggs Corn flakes.nevada wrote:Why rice in a country struggling with increasing diabetes cases? Good point. Maybe its availability of rice vs. jowari roti, ragi. I'm sure someone can do a comparison of availability and price.nevada wrote:Why do you think corn flakes is the only alternative to rice?
