One of the legends of telugu cinema, more than that a popular cartoonist with a distinct style passed away.

Ayyayyo! He made some lovely movies. Bapu's heroines represent 'padaharanaala teluginti aadapaduchulu' (an epitome of a telugu woman). It's a great compliment if any woman is called a 'bapu gari bomma' (bapu's doll)

RIP to him.

Bapu introduced a style of painting that uses simple bright colours. His unique style of economy of strokes, freehand drawing and lack of background clutter makes his paintings simple, beautiful and popular. He specializes in Hindu mythological characters and has painted the Hindu epic Ramayana as a pictorial story.

In his paintings, characters like Shiva, Bhima, Duryodhana look distinctly male with wide chests, bigger jaws and large biceps, while Krishna and Rama are more feminine in build. All his female characters (including the Hindu goddesses) have doe-like eyes, a waist-hip ratio of 0.7, voluptuous breasts, long hair and a sharp nose. In fact, the phrase [Bapu Bomma] ("Bapu's painting") has become synonymous with a beautiful Telugu girl.
The most notable achievement in his movie making is his success in capturing the nativity of the Telugu people and translating it great on-screen visuals. His movies deal with very real familial troubles and relationships but most movies have a recurring theme of magic realism, with vignettes of mythological characters aiding in the narration.

Most of his movies have a female protagonist; this was, and remains, a breakaway style from the formulaic movies that relegate female lead characters to song and dance numbers. His penchant for preserving the Telugu nativity in his movies can be seen in the choice of artists, especially the dusky female leads and very un-intimidating villains, which is uncommon in the industry. The pace is relatively slow, the humor spontaneous and innocent and the visuals captivating.

-> that is quite contrary to the current trend of importing female leads from NI and filming abroad.

The first one is what it is. Of all the things, Bapu's women remind us of huge beautiful eyes and thick long hair (braided, which goes all the way to the hips). All his paintings and movie heroines represent that. The dusky part is not a necessity. Only Muthyala muggu and  gorantha deepam have dusky heroines and are shown as such on purpose (no makeup). Other movies have heroines who aren't dark (Jaya prada, divya vani, aamani, sneha, etc)

Divya Vani, Amani (going by filmi standards) fit that bill.

>>>You need to post pics of the doe-eyed women with the 'come hither' looks. I need to hold on to my youth, with all this premature talk of retirement.*

*I have narrowed down the criteria for said purpose: a tranquil ashram, with an extended happy hour and south-of-the-border cuties for nurses, in keeping with our dusky heroine theme.

Bapu left many images that will keep him alive for a long time. One of my relatives  gave me a gift of Bapu's Ramayan as wall decorations. Bapu's art is unique and pleasing to the eye.

Even if you do not understand telugu, look at the link.  It has Bapu paintings.  They speak for themselves.  He gave so much joy for so many people for so long.
