Modiji pushing Hindi again?
"But Modi's speech is significant on two aspects. First it shows that he is free from mental slavery (to the colonial legacy). Two, it has great potential to help Hindi at home. When the youth, in some ways besieged by the importance of learning English, hears its icon speaking in Hindi in a foreign country, it will embrace the language more freely. The humiliation heaped on Hindi by Nehru must change," says Pant.
"Desai, however, says Modi was not promoting Hindi alone. "Modi does not give any particular currency to Hindi on the world stage. But it sets precedence for the local Indian language. Tomorrow there could be a prime minister from Tamil Nadu and he could speak in Tamil in a foreign country," says Desai."

-> Who is this moron Desai, going by his logic Modiji should speak in his mother tongue Gujarati, by speaking in Hindi Modiji reassured us yet another time that he is a slave of Hindi speakers.

There are people who are very confident in their mother tongue. How many Tamilans on this site do you think can read/write and speak proper Tamil despite all the bravado ?
He speaks in a language Modi felt comfy. Happens to be Hindi. Period. Peon spoke in English - but no matter which language audience would have slept. No one asked PVN NOT to speak in Telugu... PVN should be have been ashamed. No one asked DEve Gowda not to speak in Kannada...
No one asked Modi either. But he has pride and he spoke in an Indian language - just happens to be hindi.
I know you will find fault if Modi goes to bathroom and hence your blabbering does not count anyway. Please continue...

I speak proper Tamil ALWAYS.
If Manmohan is a slave to english, them\n Modi is a slave to Hindians (his mother tongue is Gujarati)
>> But he has pride and he spoke in an Indian language
If he ashamed of his mother tongue Gujarati
You are ill-informed. Read websites like TAMIL TRIBUNE
Parliament speaker would not allow Alagiri to speak in Tamil because constitution permits ministers to speak it Hindi and English only.
Here is a telling incident. Soon after he was elected the president of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam (a Tamil) was about to say a few words in Tamil at a press conference at the request of some one there. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan (a Hindian) jumped in and said, “He is the president of India. He cannot speak in Tamil.” (The Telegraph, January 10, 2010).

http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/narendra-modis-japan-visit-shinzo-abe-thank-you-speech/1/380287.html8 We made decisions to open up collaboration in youth exchange, language training, cultural exchange, research and development.
Per TV9 Telugu that language training actually refers to Hindi, and they said it smells like an agenda to push Hindi. Training them in Tamil might actually be useful they can at least enjoy Superstar's movies.

6. Take the Daughter to Royal Court
While Hindi political leaders go around the world and speak in Hindi at international forums as if Hindi is THE language of India, these politicians do not want foreigners to know that there are well-developed languages in India. It is like the evil stepmother taking her daughter to parties in the royal court while locking up the pretty stepdaughters in the house lest others see them too. Are non-Hindi languages the step daughters to be kept out of sight of the world? And is Hindi the only language to be seen and heard by foreigners?
THERe is much more in the following link'

He comes from RSS whose motto is Hindi / Hindu / Hindustan. Gujarati does not matter much to him.

I think the mindset wouldnot change until or unless the
'other brainwashed' citizens of non-hindi states realize their mistake and work towards their respective languages and their equal importance.

If Hindi fanatics are smart, they would ask Tamilnadu to get out of Indian Union. Then they can Hindianize India in 5 years without any opposition from non-Hindi state leaders.

Not just the non-Hindi states, even the Hindi states have linguistic diversity within themselves. This forced standardization is killing their languages too.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Forcing hindi will only harden the other languages and the result will be to learn local languages.
RSS walas push hindi and hindization - NOT BCZ HINDI is superior - but, that has the largest number of people who speak/understand. Certainly not majority but the largest. Most RSS walas are Marathi guys who actually oppose hindi enforcement. Still the RSS pushes it bcz in their view SOME Indian language should be the link language and hindi is their obvious choice. When I go to Madras RSS office, I know they all know english but still they will prefer to talk in tamil. They all know hindi but still never saw them talk in hindi. Their hindi push is different than the reason Mullahyam and other non-RSS/BJP Naarthi politicians have. In fact, I am sure if Modi speaks in gujarati or Jayalalitha speaks in Tamil in an international forum they will be just as equally happy. The BJP/ RSS hindi emphasis is basically due to fanatic nationalism and not due to linguistic supremacy.

Re: Modiji pushing Hindi again?
It is a BJP MP who disallowed Abdul Kalam to speak a few sentences in Tamil at a press conference.
It was Hindi MPs at the forefront against Alagiri spealking in Tamil in parliament.
Let Modi speak in Gujarati and set an example. Is he not fluent in Gujarati?

If the BJP MPs protested, what were the Cong(i) speaker and the Congress MPs and Govt doing ? They were the hindi fanatics.
Modi may be fluent in Gujarat or may be not. Just as Tamils should be allowed to speak in any language he wants to Modi also has the right to speak in an y language he wants to - Gujarati, English or Hindi ? Isn't hindi one of the official languages? then why should anyone be prevented from speaking in hindi?

My gripe is not with him speaking in Hindi rather equating India with Hindi; He could've said we get to learn Japanese and you get to learn one or more of several Indian languages with a lot of history.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:Kayalvizhi wrote:It is a BJP MP who disallowed Abdul Kalam to speak a few sentences in Tamil at a press conference.

Re: Modiji pushing Hindi again?
When Hindia says language exchange it means pour money to teach Hindi in foreign countries. Here are some examples. I gave a linj earlier in this thread. There is more there.
Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) of the Government of India established a Hindi Chair in 2010 at the Yerevan State Linguistic University (YSLU) in Armenia; that is, ICCR pays the salary of a Hindi professor at this Armenian university. Indian government has provided similar funding for professor positions and scholarships in a number of other foreign universities as well. ICCR should establish such professor positions for all Indian language or for none of the Indian languages. Why should Hindi get such preferential treatment?
Many Indian embassies around the world celebrate Vishwa Hindi Divas (World Hindi Day) every year. Is glorifying Hindi the duty of Indian embassies? Not only the embassies but also other departments of the Indian government spend their resources on World Hindi Day in foreign countries. For example, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources often join hands with Indian embassies in celebrating World Hindi Day. Ministry of Education and Human Resources' duty is to educate people and develop human resources within India. Why is it spending its resources abroad to glorify Hindi--the language of a certain region populated by about forty percent of the total Indian population? Is there no educational needs within India and is it so flush with unspent monies to go oversees and promote Hindi? Are people of other languages children of lesser languages?
Indian Government established the World Hindi Secretariat (WHS) in Mauritius in 1999 (foundation stone for the building paid for by the Indian Government was laid that year). The main objective of the WHS is to promote Hindi as an international language. Secretaries of the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Human Resource Development and Culture are members of the Executive Board of the World Hindi Secretariat. Don't these secretaries (the top civil service officials of these two ministries) have more important matters than to promote Hindi around the world which "benefits" only Hindi people and not the rest of the population?
The Central Institute of Hindi (Kendriya Hindi Sansthan) was established in the 1960s as an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Culture. One of its responsibilities is promotion and propagation of Hindi at the international level. Yet another Indian Government organization is inducted into the international glorification of Hindi. Celebrating its golden jubilee in 2011, it boasted, "For over half a century thousands of people from all over the world have been trained in teaching Hindi in their respective countries, from Fiji to China." If only the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Culture take as much enthusiasm in teaching our children in India their mother tongues, English, mathematics, science and computers, India would have much higher standard of living for all the peoples of India. Instead resources are wasted to satisfy Hindi politicians who are rightfully proud of their language. Our gripe is that use your own money to promote Hindi around the world, don't use our non-Hindi Indians' taxes to glorify your language all over the world.
2. Example Projects
2.1 Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR)

Recently, in a debate on a Tamil channel, Tamil nationalist Thyagu remarked,
"many languages, one country : one language, many countries"
These type of speeches used to be on the fringes before, but they are coming live in front and center through TV screens. By the end of Modi rule, I guess Thyagu would have won over many supporters..

If most Tamilians in Tamil Nadu wish to learn hindi it is the duty of the central govt to respect their desire to do so.

How do you define "most" ?
and if most tamilians in TN wish their state to be declared a "special state" to attract new industries and all the roads in their state to be declared as national highways, will it be the duty of the central govt to respect their desire to do so ?

If most Tamils want to learn Hindi they would have voted BJP or Congress for state government which can teach Hindi in schools. Instead people chose people who oppose Hindi in every election from 1967,
Whenever Hindi-imposing Congress or BJP contesed alone, they did not win a single seat.

Like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh has also been opting for regional parties ( like SP or BSP in the case of UP) in the state elections. You are confused.
