i am sure there must be a chat add-on in forumotion. chat will definitely bring luke warmus here. most of his stories about posters used to revolve around chat conversations overheard. but i am impressed by how he has assiduously managed to stay away from this forum for so long. he has big balls. impressed much.

Interesting... I see half a box on my IE...nothing on my FF. I logged in but could not type in the message box.... so logged out.

to see full box go to main page. click on "coffeehouse for desis." then you will see the box appended at the bottom in full form.

Here are a few helpful commands for chat:

The Chatbox commands allow you, for an example, to delete messages,
ban or unban a member, etc. They are to type in the "message" block, as
you were posting a message.

Chatbox commands Explanation

/me	In the beginning of a sentence, this command will be replaced by your username (ex: /me eats a delicious pizza" will display "Nickname eats a delicious pizza")
/exit	Disconnect from the Chatbox. You can also precise the reason that will be visible for all members connected (ex: /exit reason)
/abs	Send a message noticing that you're absent. You can add a reason that will be displayed in the message and visible by all members connected to the Chatbox (ex: /abs reason)

Apparently, it lets me login with the same id - not possible to login with different ids. I have reveal my "self" and only "self".

Oh, the only chat I am familiar with was the one on Sulekha - it was called "digichat" and was separate from the main board. It used to pop up as a separate window.

Here, it seems like whatever you type will be visible to everyone logged on.

Those are for people who need to manage multiple, simultaneous affairs, Uppili. Not for staid folks like me.

I was expecting something like what was there on Sulekha. A separate window pops up and you can type whatever name you want etc.

Unless, there is a separate pop-window, it is not very convenient. Or, one needs to open 2 browsers with 2 diff IDs to simultaneously use the Chat Box and the forum - too much work.

you can make it a separate pop up window by right clicking and selecting "this frame" --> "open this frame in new tab" in fox. you can then continue to chat in a new tab even after you have logged out of the forums -- i just tested it.

edit. correction: it seems you can't chat if you are logged out here.

if I click on chatbox or archives, it opens a separate new window for me. I don't know why I would want to sign in with another id though.

nutmeg, i don't think it is possible (going by my chat with him). this is all what forumotion offers and it doesn't have pm, anonymous logging in or elimination of archives. yenzoy.

as nutmeg mentioned in chat, if you click on chatbox in your chatbox frame, the chat box will open up in a new window/tab across browsers. .
