Following her sentencing in the disproportionate assets case in a court here on Saturday, AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa complained of dizziness. The judge then summoned the prison doctor. Further treatment could be decided by the prison authorities.
Earlier, Special Public Prosecutor Bhavani Singh said AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa would have to approach the Karnataka High Court for bail and a stay on the sentence.
Murugesh S. Maradi, lawyer assisting Mr. Singh, said the prosecution had proved beyond doubt that a sum of about Rs. 53.64 crore was disproportionate to her income against the Rs. 66.65 crore mentioned in the charge sheet.
The court said the fine amount could be adjusted against the properties seized by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption and attached by the court.
Earlier in the day, Bangalore saw chaotic scenes with AIADMK cadre stalling traffic on Hosur Road in anticipation of their leader’s visit. Almost all Tamil Nadu Ministers and legislators of the AIADMK were present at the court complex. After the verdict was pronounced, the faces were marked by disbelief. Some of them emerged shouting slogans against DMK chief M. Karunanidhi. A majority, including senior leaders like O. Panneerselvam, stayed on even hours after the verdict.

give her a break. she is in her sixties and carries extra weight. such emotional shock.could have real medical consequences. she could be seeking a hospital stay but given her health it is not far fetched.

I heard that she can't contest the elections or hold any office for the next six years. She's already 66. Is she finished politically?

Technically yes. But she will apply/get bail pending an appeal. Will appoint a handy man as CM and go after the critical evidence unearthed by this court so that the case is thrown out in the karnataka High court. And, she will be back after 2 years... That is how politicians in India are tried, convicted, released.
Modi ji is smiling impishly as he must be seeing a golden opportunity to a Maha in TN. The so called "2nd preference" vote JP is quite substantial among the ADMK/DMK. If these two groups would consider BJP rather than joining their nemesis. Expect BJP to gain a few seats in 2016 - or earlier and gain a foothold - the way it did in Karnataka.

Kinnera,
Hindu says it is ten years before she can contest elections. In the days of Indira it was six years. They may have changed the law.

I do not know the timelines but you are right. JJ will find a way out through indian judiciary system. But life is certainly not going to be easy for her. Elements within her party could turn the tables on her if they see opening. Her biggest problem is her advanced age and her health. May be she could use the time to shed some of those extra pounds and improve her quality of life.

10 yrs? wow! She can't contest until she's 76! If she can't have her way around, then this is the end of amma's era.
