boston and upps
... record breaking

The Boston area has gotten the worst of it.
Bean Town set a new record for snowiest seven-day period in the city's history with 40.2 inches, the National Weather Service reported. Boston's average annual snowfall is 47 inches. The city has already gotten more than that over the last two weeks.

WaPo is gloating, sorta..
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2015/02/03/d-c-s-snowmaggedon-stretch-was-arguably-snowier-than-bostons-record-snow-blitz-in-2015/?hpid=z3Between Feb. 1-10, 2010, Reagan National Airport officially picked up just 31.9 inches, compared to 47.9 inches at Logan from Jan. 24-Feb. 2, 2015. (In fact, Feb. 1-10 is not D.C.’s biggest 10-day snow total. Feb. 5-14, 1899 tallied 34.2 inches as measured at 24th and M St.)
However, Reagan National Airport frequently is a poor representative of snow totals in the D.C. area – especially in relation to its north and west suburbs. The totals logged at Dulles (west) and BWI (north) airports of 45.7 inches and 49.5 inches, respectively, were quite comparable to Boston.

Re: boston and upps
this is the first time in over two decades of living and navigating around snow that i've actually found it tough going. today may have been the most difficult commute of my working life. the morons who run this city have not updated the transportation system in like ages. we have the greatest universities, the greatest hospitals, biotech industry, and a tech industry rivaled only by the bay area, but our public transportation system resembles a former soviet block country that still hasn't come out of the soviet era. on the one hand everyone says take public transportation on days like this, and on the other hand public transportation comes to a complete standstill when he have unprecedented snow totals like the last ten days. ridiculous. thankfully i ignored the usual wisdom and drove to work. would have been much worse had i taken public transport.
