(Crazy) Duckworth rule
Pakistan all out for 222 runs in 46.5 overs.
SA started to bat with 223 to win in 50 overs...
But, due to rain SA target has been reset to......
drum roll...... 232 runs in 47 overs...

It wasn't reset in the middle of SA batting, was set to 232 right after Pak's innings

this is purely hypothetical - now: (or a future match)
imagine if this had been Pakistan asked to score 232 in 47 (instead of 223 in 50 overs), AND Pak all out at 230.
then Pakistan would lose even though they won....and Pakistan would be burning....thanks to Duckworth.
Simply how can a team asked to score much more than an opponent team for a win ?

Bcz batting team's strategy would've been different had they known that they get to bat for only 47 overs from the get go. DW-L rule is not perfect but it tries to set a level playing field. In this case, those 9 runs did not change the outcome.Marathadi-Saamiyaar wrote:confuzzled dude wrote:It wasn't reset in the middle of SA batting, was set to 232 right after Pak's innings

don't know much about duckworth but once SA was all out, what probability can assign that SA may score more? There is a logical error in the formula.

Not sure I got it. SA's target was set to 232, assuming Pak would've scored as many if it were a 47 over match. SA was all out in process of chasing that score.truthbetold wrote:don't know much about duckworth but once SA was all out, what probability can assign that SA may score more? What if it had rained more...and SA had only 40 overs. Then Duckworth would have extended the logic and ruled Pakistan MIGHT have scored 285 runs and SA should score 286 in 40 overs.
Do you see the flaw in logic ? At no point it can be more than an opponent's score. it is utter stupidity.
