Now, who will instigate the Thevars, Goundars, Naickers, and Bramins in TN to demand OBC designation ?

no no no, you got it all wrong regarding pappu. he's at best a reluctant prince, would like nothing better than wear leather outfits, boa feathers etc and swish happily in some western city's LGBT pride parade. it's his mommy that keeps pushing him into limelight. he couldnt care less for who patel except to wonder if his name sake is indeed true 80% of the time atleast.

That is not just in Gujarat or patels. Same everywhere. Of course, some - even on this board - want equality for the sake of equality. They dont mind 45% mark doctors as long as they equalize. This is a wrong way to equalize.

But..US is also catching up fast with India on "social equalization"

Reservations for sc/st and bc students is the best tool in Indian policy tool drawer.  Tell me another alternate policy that is politically possible? Think obamacare. It is not perfect but there is no better alternative.

Admit based on merits. Support financially all OBC/SC/ST students taking into account the family income+number of people (something like FAFSA). Those who dont get admit can apply to Polytechnics and Vocational schools with full financial assistance. Sure enough not all SC/ST will jump from the lowest strata to the highest strata (no single caste group did that anyway), but it sure will dramatically upgrade the status, confidence, and competitiveness of the neglected groups - without producing a whole lot of inept and ineffective professionals just equalizing the caste numbers.

nowhere does it say that the congress is behind him. i've heard rumors that the RSS which has had a falling out with modi is behind this guy. that seems more believable because the RSS never got behind the mandal commission.
