Air India and trouble go hand in hand. Sometimes they mess up, sometimes they have to buckle under the pressure of big shots.
Boarding for all domestic flights closes 45 minutes before departure, whether for VIPs or normal citizens.
Although the airline asked the employee to file a complaint, the employee didn’t, considering the fact, that VVIPs and politicians have more power at their disposal and that Air India is an Indian government run organization.
A source added, “AI chairman Ashwani Lohani has specifically directed that no flight should be delayed for any non-technical reason like accommodating VVIPs. Till now, politicians have treated AI like their ‘Ghar ki airline’ and done what they feel like. So coming late and expecting flights to wait for them has been a common practice for VVIPs. They should now get used to reporting on time or missing flights.”
But in these recent times of trouble, there have been few brave pilots who have started to refuse entry to such bigshots and are strictly against the VVIP treatment. Air India needs more such pilots who can stand up for themselves and also set an example for the others to spread the message loud and clear – they don’t own Air India.
Come on time or miss the flight.
Air India and trouble go hand in hand. Sometimes they mess up, sometimes they have to buckle under the pressure of big shots.
Recently, Air India had to face something similar yet again when a Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party MP, Mithun Reddy from Andhra Pradesh slapped an AI officer for refusing him entry to board the flight. Why? Because the MP was late to board the flight and reached the airport 20-25 minutes before the flight departure.

A source said, “Since the boarding counter had closed for the 2:30 pm flight when the MP and his entourage reached the airport, the VVIP asked the station manager to accommodate him and his relatives on board. Expressing his inability to do so as boarding had closed, the employee apologised to the MP. The politician flew into a rage and slapped the station manager.”

The AI station manager was in the security hold area looking into the last minute preparations before the departure of the flight when he was called out to meet the MP and also where he got slapped.
