Why are Telugus(living abroad) obsessed with the idea of sending their kids to med school or is it the same with all Indians living abroad? They're single-mindedly focused on achieving it, they've various options besides US, medical schools Caribbean, Eastern European countries or India (NRI quota), and even China.

Umm because it's a noble profession. Doctors are rich. Respected all around. They can work in any country. 

You can never go hungry saving lives. 

Telugu parents know this.

yes. I know... but they do get another position quite soon.

These days most docs are "employed" by corporations but they do make decent money. They are indeed squeezed more and more in all directions.
