Scalia passes away
Time to nominate Sri Srinivasan? I'm sure Obama will try but the party of no is going to fight like hell. And how is it going to change the presidential race?

Maybe someone should start a White House petition to nominate Sri Srinivasan. Or Bharara, but he probably has Gubernatorial ambitions.

If he wants to protect his Obamacare, then he should replace Scalia, Ruth and Kennedy with his nominees... but will be held up by the GoP. but if 2 more justces step dwn, GoP cannot hold up 3 for 1 year.

why do you think that it's time to nominate srinivasan? because he's indian? southern indian? tamilian? tamil brahmin? because you have a high opinion of his expertise and dedication as a judge?MaxEntropy_Man wrote:Time to nominate Sri Srinivasan? Because Obama nominated and got him approved unanimously in the U.S. senate as a DC circuit court judge, and because he is well qualified to be a Supreme Court justice. I answered your q, now could you answer a few of mine? Why do you readily impute tribal instincts to others, but not to yourself? You peddled Dr. Abraham Verghese's writings here on a number of occasions. Is it because he has Indian connections? Because he has Chennai connections? Because he is Syrian Christian?

Yes...yes..yes... and a big Overall YES.
And, I will add Kamala Harris, who is more likely to be nominated. The GoP will object to both of them and Kamala has a better shot against the Palinists.

do you know that he is especially qualified? do you know others who are qualified? do you have the judicial discernment to propose srinivasan over everyone else? given that you didn't answer my earlier queries, it is almost certain that the answer to every one of my current questions is a "no."
I must then conclude that your extraordinary enthusiasm for srinivasan is parochial in nature.
continuing your isn't-it-time theme, isn't it time to leave provincialism behind, or at least be honest and admit that you love to cheer tamil brahmins on to greater glory in the new matunga?

According to you who has the judicial discernment to propose someone over everyone else ? Are there any special qualifications needed ?
Do you know that one does not need a law degree to argue in a court? By that token anyone - EVEN you, think of it, E V E N YOU - can propose anyone to be on supreme court.
And, I propose Palin to be a SC justice.

apparently the Google search engine is a parochial tambrahm cheering new matungist too! maybe uppili's spurious claims about sundar pichai are true after all.
typing "obama's likely Supreme Court nominee" produces interesting results.

here is a New Yorker article from 2014:

we know the anticipated progression of this thread now -- some lame point about why "I thought SS is qualified or whether I have the creds to suggest him". Maybe I don't, but I trust publication like the New Yorker.

The crying for Scalia are crocodile tears by all GoP candidates. They must be thrilled since Scalia's death is blessings in disguise.
Here's what they will do. All GoP candidates will try to rally conservatives by saying Obama will appoint a liberal in Supreme Court and ask conservatives to come out vote for them now and in general elections.

Swapna/flimflam,
According to your logic (or illogic) max being a tambram makes him illegible to suggest sri srinivasan would be a good sc candidate. This from a guy who publishes the minute details of his daughter's accomplishments every other week. Same guy raises privacy concerns. The same guy is a Hindu hater and religious bigot but goes around commenting about secularism. You are a hypocrite. You have no credibility on this issue.
Max is probably influenced to some extent by the tambram connection. But sri srinivasan 's name was not pulled out of some parochial web site. Every major news media (ex: Ny times, Washington post, Cnn) mentioned his name as top or one of the top choice. So calling out Max on this issue reveals more about your prejudice and arrogance than about Max's parochialism.

the answer: I'm observing several species of animals that gather here, and making notes, expecting to publish my findings in the american journal of zoology.

that's what you tell yourself. the real reason you're here is because you have no life in the real world and this is the last connection you have to humans, dysfunctional as the interaction maybe, like rest of your interactions. you are the real zoo animal here, you just dont know it due to your large capacity for self delusion.

We all are to some extent. Soon women's group, Tea Partyers, NAACP, Hispanic groups, NRA roups and every other group will demand that the new nominee be one of their own. Every Senator will question and investigate if the nominee conforms to own thoughts and views,
The media is also suspecting that Sri may be nominated as he won bipartisan support just 3 years ago and being the Tambrahmi non-controversial guy, he is one who can wade through the political controversies.
After all, a smart basket ball Guard like Sri has to be a great strategist.

Here is another article written before SS's confirmation to the DC circuit court:
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/04/08/1832141/why-an-obscure-lawyer-that-youve-probably-never-heard-of-is-the-most-important-story-in-dc/
He won confirmation because he has credibility amongst republicans too, something that'll serve him well for the SCOTUS nomination.

The only blot on his resume - if anyone is serious enough to use it against him - is his long and strong experience of arguing for corporates - sort of an anti-Bernie mould.

we know the anticipated progression of this thread now -- some lame point about why "I thought SS is qualified or whether I have the creds to suggest him". Maybe I don't, but I trust publication like the New Yorker.
Toobin's full time job is politics and politics (I bet you dont know about Toobin's background upto this point, but dont hesitate to quote him).
Let us say that you did not list even ONE.

Get a grip! It's not my job to list all potential candidates. This is an Indian forum and yes I am interested in people and things Indian which is why we all post here. I also post extensively about Vijay Iyer. Are you now going to claim that the reason I post about him is because he is a Tamil Brahmin? You've known me as a poster for a number of years. If your conclusion is that caste affiliation is a huge thing with me, it's quite futile to argue with you!

Re: Scalia passes away
max is apparently influenced solely by the tamil brahmin connection. in the major media's lists, srinivasan is only one of the candidates. max, however, has only one choice, srinivasan; he doesn't know or know of anyone else. why not? they are not tamil brahmin, neo-matungars!truthbetold wrote:Swapna/flimflam,
According to your logic (or illogic) max being a tambram makes him illegible to suggest sri srinivasan would be a good sc candidate.
So calling out Max on this issue reveals more about your prejudice and arrogance than about Max's parochialism.
he doesn't know srinivasan's judicial qualifications for the job; apparently, he is the only one with the only qualification that counts: he is a tamil brahmin!

Re: Scalia passes away
what makes you think I didn't know SS's qualifications for the job? I followed his confirmation to the DC circuit court quite closely and it is well known that that court is one step away from the SCOTUS.
My first post here precedes Toobin mentioning SS's name on CNN after scalia's death by 10 mins. I was watching news of scalia's death on CNN live when I made the original post in this thread. I remembered SS's name because he was mentioned as a future nominee to the SCOTUS even as he was getting confirmed for the lower court.

Looks like your uniquely qualified Tambrahm judge won't be nominated.
