Yep. Many parts of Chicago are just that. GC can elaborate.

What is there for me to elaborate? Just google. I have lived in Chicago long enough to know which areas are dangerous to drive through even during the day. I think Obama is equally aware of what the combination of easy access to guns and violent temperament, arising from poverty-stricken, drug-infested, gang-ridden neighborhoods, has done for the self-perpetuating spiral of death and destruction in the city.Hellsangel wrote: Yep. NRA is but a greedy, profit-mongering ally to this devastation using the 2nd Amendment as a convenient tool. It profits directly from the sale of assault weapons, membership revenues, gun advertisements and related schemes. Along with gun manufacturers, it stands to gain the most each time a mass shooting occurs since the public is driven by the paranoia to buy more guns. It is also the most powerful lobby that funds politicians in thwarting any attempt towards the ban on assault weapons or even increased legislation on gun control and buyer scrutiny.
It is really the lumbering elephant in the living room.

This anecdote is exclusively for Hellsbells.
Back in 1992 or thereabouts, I had to travel with a sales rep in Philadelphia to promote our company's healthcare software. He picked me up at the airport but told me that we had to make a pitstop at his home before the appointment. I was annoyed as we were already running behind schedule in his beat-up heap of a car but agreed.
Once we got there he told me to get out of my suit and tie, only wear the flannel half-sleeve shirt he gave me. I was puzzled; and he laughed saying I had no idea how to travel in the neighborhood he was taking me. So I complied.
Sure enough the hospital was in an area that looked like a war zone. The telephone booth we passed by was riddled with bullet holes. We had to press a button, needed to show our ID's to the camera, before being buzzed in. I was amazed that this poor rep made a living calling on inner city hospitals like this one. Suddenly his rickety old car and the black radio station stickers on his bumper made sense.
That was an unforgettable experience!
