Muslim woman fired from work for wearing hijab in U.S.

In a case of alleged discrimination in the United States, a young Muslim woman was fired from her job at a dental clinic for wearing a hijab as her employer wanted to keep a “neutral environment” in office.
Najaf Khan, who was hired as a dental assistant at Fair Oaks Dental Care in Fairfax County, Virginia, said she was fired from the new job because she wore a Muslim head scarf to work.
As part of her spiritual journey
“I was really upset. The day that it happened, I was devastated,” Ms. Khan told NBC Washington. She did not wear the hijab for her interview or on the first two days of employment.
On the third day, she chose to wear it because Ms. Khan felt that she would stay at the job and wearing it was part of her spiritual journey.
Employer asked her to take it off
At work that day, she said the owner of Fair Oaks Dental Care, Dr. Chuck Joo, told her to take off the hijab.
Dr. Joo told her that they wanted to keep a “neutral environment” in office. The employer asked her to remove it because the Islamic headscarf would offend patients and he wanted to keep religion out of the office.
Ms. Khan said Dr. Joo gave her an ultimatum — she could continue wearing the scarf and be fired or work without it.
But she held on to it
“When I said that I would not compromise my religion for that, he held the door open for me and I walked out,” Ms. Khan said.
Dr. Joo was quoted as saying that open displays of religion are not allowed at his business because he wants to keep it neutral. If his employees want to wear a hat, it must be a surgical hat for sanitary reasons, Dr. Joo said.
Reacting to the case, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) said, “No employee should face termination because of his or her faith or religious practices. We call on Fair Oaks Dental Care to reinstate the Muslim employee and to offer her reasonable religious accommodation as mandated by law.”
But she may not return to her job
Ms. Khan said she would likely refuse an offer to return to the dental office.
“I was astonished because he [boss] had been saying I had been doing so well. I received an email Friday morning [July 29] saying how much positive enthusiasm I was bringing into the dental office,” she told Fox News.
According to her boss, open displays of religion are not allowed at his dental clinic.

Read the comments.
Fact that she did not wear the hijab while interviewing and the first 2 days shows she waas willing to suspend her "spiritual journey" for the sake of "financial security", and once it is thougtht to be secured she reverted back to her spiritual journey.
Another typical muslim practicing her religion per convenience - like everyone else - but claiming to be more honest, spiritual, and superior than others.
What if somene comes naked to the office and patients come naked - citing their "freedom" and "religion"?

My faith compels me to wear a human skull around my neck, so I should be allowed to practice my faith without hinderence! Give me a break...

My dear Americans. I am an Indian and know Islam all too well. You guys are so innocent, and trusting and sorry to say dumb. You don't understand that Islam supercedes US constitution and all common sense. Their religions trumps everything. They will never integrate. If you keep embracing them, they will stab you in the back. Look what's happening in France and Germany. The woman needs to understand that her ridiculous costume makes other customers uncomfortable. But she is too busy thinking of Allah. I say pass a bill soon banning such nonsensical practices.

the joke is on vikki aditya who seems to have a poor grasp of the U.S. constitution. she may well have an equal protection lawsuit on her hands.
you guys didn't complain too much when accommodations were made recently for a sikh officer in the U.S. military to be able to wear a turban. double standards much?

How many bombings and terror acts the Sardars have been attributed to in the last 20 years?
How many have hidden killing swords and machine guns and bombs in their turbans ?
Your statement might hold some water IFF the Sardars are allowed to carry their Bindranwale "Swords" (one of 5 things they are supposed to carry at all times) to work place.

the equal protection clause of the american constitution makes no such distinctions. equal protection is just that, equal protection. it doesn't make protection contingent on the actions of others in a group one may be a member of.
here is the text of the clause from the fourteenth amendment:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
i don't see any conditions imposed on its applicability based on the actions and beliefs of other members of groups to which individuals may belong, do you? there may also be a more straightforward first amendment case here, but it's probably weaker because the dental clinic is not a public space.

US Laws are made to contest and conflict - unlike the Sharia. The Burqa fakie is welcomed to sue. To help her with her spiritual journey, she should not settle out of court and go al the way to supreme court. More power to her and the Ummah.
