I have been told that blue collar workers in Bengaluru cannot be expected to speak Kannada as they migrate from the North. A North Indian gentleman who has started a men's saloon outside my apartment asked me this morning when I went for a head massage, coffee/tea, nashthra aithu? In comparison, I sent back the chap who requested my car keys in Hindi (in order to clean inside) telling him Hindi arthagalla, nim bossu divitu kalsbidi. Assimilation is not about knowledge or education, it is about intent IMHO.
