Whenever one of us is in India, we must donate.

Buy 20 Kg apples, when U go on a long drive from Delhi to Amritsar.

Some kid comes, at least you have at least an apple to give.

Another institution that is going to be under threat -- NPR. Please now is the time to double down on funding NPR. Don't wait for the pledge drives, do it now.

Most of these orgs who claim to be helping for such causes donot take cases unless they have some gain in or popularity is going to increase in +ve side. I have few friends who approached such orgs and though they had legitimate issues these organizations turned down their request and did not help. They got help finally from another similar organization which ALSO had some ulterior motive. So all that xxx.org are NOT real in their service as per their claim and there may be some exceptions.. Same with NPR too and they do not take up the issue unless if they find it suits or within their budget.

The ACLU is not a fly by night operation. They are a 96 year old non profit that's been a staunch defender of Americans' civil liberties. Sure they don't take every case that comes their way and may have some filtering criteria. That doesn't in any way diminish the critically important work they're doing.

The NPR is a news outlet that I've relied on for over 25 years for in-depth news and analysis. They are constantly under threat by Republicans who threaten to cut off funding. They're also heavily supported by listeners. I'll defend their journalistic integrity over any other American news media. I've been donating since my grad student days.

Time for people who care about civil liberties, first amendment privileges, and journalistic integrity which are going to be threatened in the next four years to buckle down and strongly defend these stalwart American institutions, so that they in turn may continue to inform us and protect us.

I have been a recurring monthly member of my local NPR station. After this election, I have signed up for recurring donations to the following: ACLU, NRDC, Planned Parenthood. I will revisit them in November 2018 and again in November 2020.

I am also thinking about subscribing to a couple of newspapers. I don't want the paper version, which is why I haven't had a subscription since 2007 or thereabouts. But a thriving free press is an essential ingredient to our democracy, as Tocqueville observed all those years ago.

People here who are worried about a Trump presidency, please consider supporting these worthy organizations.

(1) ACLU
(2) SPLC (Southern poverty law center)
(3) NPR
(4) MSF
(5) Planned parenthood

Normally only MSF and NPR are on this list, but this year we decided to extend the list because of the election results and the various threats we are going to be under.
