Aus-Ind T1
Aussie to bat... Hopefully, it will give the Indians a little warm up practice, and not do their first test routine debacle. Still possible - but that is postponed for a day or more.

Warner sparkled for a while. Yadav got a good wicket. Both Ishant and Zaheer bowled well to get some near misses. But Indian pace seem to lack something that local boys know in forcing those knicks. So far good effort by Indian bowlers.

zaheer and ishant's first spell was mostly crap.

Yadav got second. He looks like a real fast bowler. His face is really well chiseled and he looks solid. His pace may be causing batsmen to make those mistakes.
I think Zaheer and Ishant didnot bowl crap. They just could not finish the job.
If Indian bowlers can quickly learn how the ball behaves on Aussies pitches they can get some success.
No injury problems so far. That is the best news.

Looks like Pontinglu will score a 100 and we will resurrect his career.

nope. he didn't. out to a rookie on 62.
AUS 169/3. if they score 300+, well, IND has a problem. AUS quicks can cause considerable damage if it rains a bit on day 2 and 3.
Advantage AUS at this moment. we need two more wickets today.

ZK, you beauty! and BCCI, you beauty! no UDRS and one wicket stolen. nonetheless, fantastic bowling by ZK.

IND has a slight advantage at the end of the day. this could have been IND's day had we managed to clean up the tail. with siddle doing stuart broad, one only hopes that we are not late in taking the rest of the wickets tomorrow. 350 for AUS and we lose all the advantage. i can't see IND scoring much.

India should take into account of its "first-test" vulnerabilities, and try to wrap up the Aussie innings FAST. Anything over 350 and a quick couple of Indian wickets will put them under pressure.
I cannot understand why these fast bowlers put so much energy into their bowling and not force the batsmen to play EVERY ball. Ishant and Yadav were pitching the ball half way down the pitch, while Zaheer tries to make the batsmen play every ball.
First hour will tell us where this test might be headed.

Re: Aus-Ind T1
Stats probably do not tell much about this Aussies team. But MCG was a good hunting ground for Aussies till 2008. They scored heavily and secured good leads to beat visitors. 350 + is a distinct possibility.
However if India could contain the total to 300 to 320, they can bat carefully to build 350 plus. Pitch may become easy.

Uppiliji,
You are up awfully early. India still have a chance and Indian fast bowlers bowled well but seem to lack that little extra that local boys usually have. May be aswin can get a breakthrough.
Question: How does this forum post times of posting? Is it readers local time?

decent position but they need to capitalize and wrap up the tail. getting haddin and siddle out will be key. haddin has a habit of sticking around. i like yadav's energy. nice bustling action and bowls plenty fast. gives away some runs but if very effective. ponting was undone once again by a rookie indian quick.

sehwag got out just before tea. India needs a real huge partnership between Sachin and Dravid to set up for a huge lead. Aussie fast bowlers seem to have woken up and getting to swing the ball a little bit more. If India can hold till the end of the day with out addl loss and a 80 to 100 runs, they can sleep better.

scoring won't be easy anymore now that sehwag has left. dravid has been edgy before tea and SRT just survived. call me a pessimist, but i don't see IND seizing the initiative.

umm, i am not so sure about kohli (untested in these conditions) and VVSL (a bad starter). dhobi might score a 50 and ashwin might lend a helpful hand. but we are talking about tail now. it is 111/2. i hate these nelsons (IND at 111/2 in 33 trailing by 222 behind AUS 333).

Re: Aus-Ind T1
and why is dravid trying to play IPL strokes at MCG? he was rattled by some good bowling, but i hope he doesn't throw away his wicket. you let AUS get their foot in the door and you are screwed.
Siddle to Dravid, no run, one of the worst shots Dravid has played all life.
Lyon to Dravid, 2 runs, slog-heave from Dravid. As uncharacteristic as they come.

dravid is now struggling with his calf muscle. he must retire hurt and come back later instead of worsening his pain.
AUS has tried six bowlers so far. hahaha. you will see even clarke and ponting bowling in this test (or the series).

Sachin looked terrific. Dravid is troubled after 25. But Sachin is in pavillion and Rahul still guarding the wall.
Aussies really bowled well in the last 10 overs. It was a battle. It was India's day till the last 10 overs.

Sachin seem to decide on what he wants to do very early and gets into position early to make the shot look easy.
If Sachin stays in the current form, he could make big contributions to Indian batting.

"DRAW" is written all over the face of this first test - unless our $kar takes to bowling and gets 6 wickets for 40 runs. What a waste of time! He cannot hit a century for 9 months!! At least hope he hits 30+ to make the test as a century test for his two innings.

yup. Looks like a repeat of ENG tour. Wonder when was the last time Laxman scored a fifty+ in the 1st innings of first test.

disappointing that kohli was totally useless. i don't think any of these guys - kohli, rohit sharma, or raina are really cut out for the long format. don't know why they won't give cheteshwar a go. from the beginning i've always maintained that these guys are only tonty tonty lions and that too at home. they have no place in the long format. they look clueless.

Kohli got a good delivery, he did well in Australia a couple of years ago when he toured with India 'A' team.
What a turn around. Aussie bats are throwing away their wickets, inexperience shows.

Re: Aus-Ind T1
They need to get Ponting /Hussey soon, and wrap up the tail within 150 to 200 runs. Anything more, the Indian team may get into trouble.
Just asking: did someone tell Dhoni NOT to use Sehwag, SRT as switch bowlers in the first innings? Such bowling changes offer relief to the main bowlers, distract batsmen into complacency against weaker bowling, and possibility of breakthroughs.
Think people should SERIOUSLY consider dropping Dhoni unless he gets his batting to his pre-marriage days.

Re: Aus-Ind T1
disappointing batting by IND. laxman, kohli and dhobi should be ashamed of their performance. we had a very good chance of surpassing their total today and put a solid wood on them, but we faltered. wtf? and now we are suddenly trailing by 200. all that happened in two sessions. anything more than 250 (which looks likely now) and then AUS has the advantage. it is not WI we are playing, and this is not Kotla, Chepauk, Jamtha, Wankhede or Chinnasway.
umesh yadav was impressive today. let's hope that we don't let the tail wag.

Re: Aus-Ind T1
8 down now. one only hopes that hussey's drop does not cost india much. 270 will be a very challenging total to get. gambhir and sehwag need to bat well and give us a solid opening p'ship. but i expect sehwag to play as if this is the first day of an inconsequential tour match with south sudan for charity.
hope gambhir, laxman, kohli and dhobi make up for their first innings failure (like hussey) and SRT and Dravid to carry on the good work.
aside, is it time for dravid to start fielding at places other than catching position? this is perhaps the 4th (or 5th) regulation catch he has dropped since ENG tour began.

hey, don't question the dust-king of ranchi who will unleash his reverse helicopter, retracting submarine, sideways unicycle and dipping stealth bomber strokes - all in one shot - tomorrow at the MCG.
